Get to know them!

When it comes to choosing a "forever flute" for your professional career, make sure you're getting the best of the best by auditioning the Powell Aurumite 9K Conservatory from Sweetwater. An evolved and refined version of the 3100 model flute, this dazzling handcrafted instrument brandishes Powell's proprietary Aurumite construction, which constitutes the process of layering precious metals over sterling silver. As such, the Aurumite 9K Conservatory displays an exterior layer of 9-karat rose gold and an interior layer of sterling silver — resulting in a bright sound exuding a spectrum of tonal character. Additional fittings include a pinless mechanism, 10-karat white gold springs, and brilliant silver-plated keywork featuring Powell’s own patented drawn tone holes. Give the Aurumite 9K Conservatory a try today and experience firsthand how Powell's ingenious manufacturing techniques can help you cultivate your signature sound!

A multimetallic blend of high-quality materials

With an exterior layer of rose gold covering an interior layer of sterling silver, Powell's proprietary Aurumite material produces a lively and colorful tone distinct from any other metallurgic combination. This means the Aurumite 9K Conservatory — made up almost entirely of this multimetallic blend — sounds out of this world, especially compared to beginner and intermediate flutes. Aside from its outstanding sound, the Aurumite 9K Conservatory's tubing elevates it to a work of visual art that will bedazzle you and your audience.

Silver-plated keywork provides an ergonomic grip for demanding playing sessions

The Aurumite 9K Conservatory boasts eye-catching silver-plated keywork that contrasts beautifully with the rest of the flute's body. Laid out in a comfortable offset G key system with 10k white gold springs, elegant pointed key arms, and a convenient C# trill key, it's incredibly easy to hold and play, even for long periods. Underneath the Aurumite 9K Conservatory’s hand-assembled keys are Pisoni S2 standard pads, which are resistant to the elements while also boasting a clear response and superior resonance. Paired with its flawlessly crafted tone holes, these pads deliver a leak-free seal whenever you play, resulting in a seamlessly ethereal sound.

Powell Flutes: a legacy of artistry and innovation

Powell Flutes began as a true labor of love. In 1910, jeweler Verne Q. Powell fashioned himself a silver flute with silver sourced from silver dollars, watch casings, and spoons. This impressive display of metalworking inadvertently launched his career as a flute maker. In 1926, he founded his own company and quickly earned a reputation for building the finest-quality French flutes. Indeed, Powell Flutes took the industry by storm and became quickly embraced by flutists from around the world. In the years since, Powell Flutes has been distinguished by constant innovation. They created the first all-14K gold flute and the one-and-only 14k white gold flute; they designed a platinum flute for the 1939 World’s Fair. They were the first company to manufacture a Cooper Scale flute. Powell Flutes patented their own alloy, Aurumite, and developed a groundbreaking method for extruding tone holes. The company also holds the title for having built the only handmade flute to have been played in space! To this day, Powell’s legacy of artistry and innovation endures with every hand-finished flute that emerges from their factory in Maynard, Mass.
