Built by Buchla, Reimagined for Eurorack Excellence
Don Buchla’s legacy of innovation has spurred countless leaps of sonic imagination, daring sound designers and synthesists alike to challenge the conventions of how we interface with sound and express our artistic vision. The 259t programmable complex waveform generator continues Tiptop Audio’s ongoing collaboration with Buchla, honoring the late legend’s enduring spirit by painstakingly preserving the quirks, character, and creativity of the Buchla 200-series modules while transforming them for explosive Eurorack possibilities. At 34HP, the 259t — like the Buchla 259 before it — is a dynamic, dual-oscillator module that’s teeming with sonic contouring capabilities, with a triplet of waveshaping modes and extensive FM tools supplemented by a multifaceted I/O of CV and ART connections, alongside Timbre and Harmonics sculpting controls. Across its multi-modal modulation possibilities and limitless, latent interoperative potential, Sweetwater’s synth scholars are fascinated by the exacting accuracy Tiptop Audio has achieved in transforming the modular magic of Buchla for Eurorack without sacrificing the exploratory spirit of its predecessor.
Note: This module is not compatible with Buchla system voltages. CV and ART formats require distinct connectivity configurations. Please contact your Sweetwater Sales Engineer with any questions or concerns regarding compatibility or use in your Eurorack case.

Discover the genius of Buchla
One of Don Buchla’s most divisive takes on synthesis and music making was his aversion to traditional keyboards. In his ambition, Buchla developed instruments untethered from the normative modes of thinking about, composing, performing, and recording music. Tiptop Audio’s Buchla 259t Programmable Complex Waveform Generator brings this transcendent thinking to the near-limitless possibilities of Eurorack synthesis. The dual-oscillator design is built on a Principal and Modulation oscillator. The former is a CV-adjustable audio rate oscillator capable of sine waves, square waves, or infinite numbers of complex waveforms when using the Timbe and Harmonics section. With the latter, low and high modes let you instantly toggle between LFO and audio-rate oscillations. Moreover, each oscillator can be individually toggled to be controlled via 1-volt/octave CV or Tiptop Audio’s groundbreaking ART signal format. The 259t has no shortage of complexity across multiple modulation waveshape, a suite of CV and FM inputs, multiple simultaneous per-oscillator outputs, phase locking, dedicated Gate outputs, and individuated amplitude, pitch, and timbre modulation. However, in the infinite nature of its inter- and intra-modular magic, the 259t also has no shortage of creative possibilities.

Discover the ART of next-gen synthesis
What is ART? In short, it’s the next stage of Eurorack’s evolution. More expansively, it’s the brainchild of Tiptop Audio founder Gur Milstein, marking a groundbreaking, open-spec control signal technology that expands the sonic scope of modular synthesis possibilities. Utilizing ART-capable modules allows synthesists and sound designers to explore complex modular terrains, including polyphonic Eurorack synthesis and inventive modular arrangements through paired gate or velocity outputs. Because ART modules utilize Eurorack signal levels for both oscillator audio and CV/gate controls, alongside sharing the same power connectors, these can be seamlessly intermixed with standard Eurorack gear via 3.5-millimeter patch cables. Unlike the Eurorack-standard 1V/octave model, ART signals transmit multiple dimensions of information with near-zero latency, including velocity, modulation, and pressure values, as well as precise pitch information.
At its core, the ART signal replaces the prohibitively tricky, time-consuming, and creatively stifling method of tuning modules with 1V/octave CV. Select ART modules feature innovative connectors that utilize Tiptop Audio’s custom-developed Polytip patch cables, directly enabling polyphonic performances via lightning-fast transmission of detailed information between modules. So, why create with ART? This framework unlocks the full potential of the Eurorack modular architecture by solving the artistic, harmonic, and structural woes that were an inevitable outcome of the space’s nascent technological limitations. In other words, ART expands Eurorack without compromising the spirit that’s inspired countless musicians for decades, producing exciting vectors to summit the previously insurmountable heights of modular synthesis.
