Reviews

Unique and interesting tone for lighter musical styles.
I have used a lot of BD beaters in my career. Each having something that worked for the given situation I found myself playing in. Such is the case with the Vic Firth VKB4 Cajon beater. I'm sure that it is wonderful on a cajon, but that is not how I use it. I am a trad. jazz player and needed a beater that existed between the classic felt and the vintage lambs wool beaters. The VKB 4 fits that description perfectly. If you don't know already, the beater is basically a rubber ball, similar to the classic pink balls we all had as kids (I always thought those things would make a great BD beater, should have pursued it). The beater has enough surface tension to produce a nice percussive attack and clear transient, while being soft enough to round the tone making it subtle enough for fathering. If you add a shaft weight, you can get a bit more punch, but I don't find that necessary for gigs. Needless to say, it's built like a tank and should last forever (even longer than a felt beater which can eventually flatten out if not rotated on the pedal). If you need something unconventional for your beater, this is one to definitely check out.

Very Pleasant sound out of a cajon. It even works quite well with your bass drum for jazz or other quiet music.

Small change, Big improvement
Was not happy with the sound of the beater supplied with the Gibraltar Cajon pedal. It looked and felt like a small tennis ball. I just sat it aside an meant to return it but I forgot and got stuck with it. I was dealing with another problem with a binding cable and a squeak and Gibraltar took are of that, but the sound still sucked. Accidentally found this Cajon beater that is more of a rubber ball, much denser than the tennis ball. It sounds great great low punch and tone. I gave it a four because of the cable issue. Plan on updating the beater on your Cajon pedal. This Vic Firth is the best
