Premium tonewoods deliver amazing sound and playability
The Ernie Ball Music Man John Petrucci JP15 7 features a solid okoume body topped with roasted flame maple. This combo yields excellent resonance and sustain, practically identical to mahogany but with a touch more warmth. The body features an extended forearm cut for more comfortable fretting high up, and the roasted maple fingerboard’s 17-inch radius with 24 stainless steel frets makes effortless bends and high-speed runs a breeze. The slim roasted maple neck is alarmingly fast and is finished with a special blend of gunstock oil and wax — a favorite among Sweetwater players for its silky-smooth feel.
Custom-voiced humbuckers
Two onboard DiMarzio Illuminator humbucking pickups are designed to John Petrucci’s specs and specifically voiced for the 7-string guitar. John demands versatility, and that's why Illuminators are super adaptable. From liquid cleans to massive overdrive and distortion, Illuminators do it all with a tightness and a fidelity you won’t get from any other pickup. And it’s all supported by a powerful Music Man active preamp with a push-pull option for passive coil-split. Additionally, a unique push-pull volume knob gives you access to a massive +20dB gain boost, which is great for dynamics and big boosts on the fly.
Bridge-mounted piezo
The JP15’s bridge-mounted piezo pickup lets you tap into incredible acoustic tones without changing instruments. The piezo has its own dedicated pickup selector and volume knob, so it’s easy to blend these acoustic tones with Illuminator sounds for a unique tone. It’s the ultimate platform for pro guitarists who need a little bit of everything without compromising tone.
Floating piezo vibrato and Schaller locking tuners for perfect pitch
A premium guitar demands premium hardware, and the JP15 doesn’t disappoint. Schaller M6-IND locking tuners make string changing a cinch. Simply insert the string, tighten the clamp screw, and tune up to pitch. And speaking of pitch, this guitar’s floating vibrato tailpiece is constructed of chrome-plated hardened steel with stainless steel saddles for smooth whammy action and impressive tuning stability.
