How RimMount works

The Earthworks RM1 RimMount simplifies your drum setups by letting you mount your Earthworks Drum Periscope and Periscope Series Mics directly on the rim of the snare or toms. The top of the RM1 - as well as the entire metal bracket - is coated with a protective layer of polyolefin to protect the drum rim and drum shell from being damaged. The RM1 is fitted with a rotary thumbscrew attached to a multi-slotted Delrin jaw that can be easily aligned with the underside of a metal drum rim. The RM1 sports a rubber sleeve that securely holds a Drum Periscope or Periscope microphone, and allows for the mic to be slid up or down to adjust the height of the microphone capsule relative to the drumhead. Reviews

Amazing mics... horrid mounts.
We got these with the Earthworks DM20's. 6 total. We could not possibly be more satisfied with the mics themselves. That said, these clamps are just useless or worse. The rubber grips the DM20 so hard that up/down manipulation is not possible while the clip is on the drum, so every time you need to make an adjustment the whole thing has to come off. The thumbscrew that works the clamp is too wide as well so on many drums the thumbscrew rubs on the shell which is obviously really problematic. On top of that, the thumbscrew is just threaded into that screw and is really easy to take off independent of the mount. We have on multiple occasions literally not been able to get the mount off the drum without pliers because the mount has more grip on the drum than the nut does on the screw. Horrible, horrible design. Also the mics barely fit in the bags if you leave the clips on, which means you have to wrestle them out of the stiff rubber every time you put them away.
