La Bella's string expertise reaches back centuries

While La Bella strings are the top choice for world-famous musicians such as Willie Nelson, Bryan Adams, and Ron Carter, their heritage reaches way back - almost four centuries back, starting in Salle, Italy, in the seventeenth century with the Mari family. They were famous throughout Europe and even supplied violin strings to Amati and Stradivari. Brothers Emilio and Olinto Mari moved their string operation to New York in the early twentieth century, and the modern-day foundation for La Bella strings was born.

La Bella 700C Cuatro de Puerto Rico Strings Features:
  • Cuatro strings
  • Steel construction
  • Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) keeps strings fresh longer

Reviews

Great strings, just one thing....
Excellent strings, but one of 4th and 5th course sizes are switched.

4th course should be .32/,15, and 5th should be .44/.22.

Just switch the low 4th course string for the high 5th course string and they will sound perfect. (The .32 high string in the 5th course will not tune up to the octave B)

Not-so-balanced
La Bella has been producing these sets for decades, but it is not balanced in terms of the tension from course to course. The G+D are a bit light, the A+B are ok, but the E is a bit heavy. I put together a custom set using the D'Addario string tension calculator and a typical 20.5" scale length.

The following are the gauges for a Regular set:
G=12+12 / D=16+16 / A=22w+22w / E=30w+14 / B=42w+20w [21 lb. average].
Notice how the A+B almost match the La Bella set.

If you'd rather go light, here are my suggestion for gauges:
G=10+10 / D=13+13 / A=18+18 / E=26w+12 / B=34w+16 [15 lb. average]
If you're looking for the sound of Nieves Quintero, change the A course to this: 20w+9

Enjoy.
