A Family Business 400 Years in the Making
La Bella traces their string-making heritage back to the Mari family in Salle, Italy. In the 1600s, the family was already hard at work creating gut strings and supplying them to famous luthiers, such as Amati and Stradivari. But it wasn’t until 1913, when Emilio Mari and his brother Olinto ventured to America, that the modern La Bella company was founded. The brothers produced finely built, handcrafted strings that would quickly become famous. From there, the family business grew as it was handed down to three generations. And today, more than 400 years later, La Bella continues to craft world-leading boutique instrument strings right here in the USA.
Boutique Strings for the Discerning Player
La Bella strings are played by the world’s preeminent musicians. You’ll find them on tour with Willie Nelson, Bryan Adams, Tony Iommi, Thundercat, and many more artists. And these players all rely on La Bella strings to offer a consistent feel, reliable pitch stability, and a longer lifespan than most other strings on the market. Plus, La Bella makes more than just electric guitar and bass strings. The company designs and manufactures strings for classical and flamenco guitar, orchestral instruments, lute, oud, and sitar — and that’s just scratching the surface. La Bella offers boutique-quality strings for nearly every “niche” instrument and musical style worldwide.
Designed for Maximum Musicality
From the design phase to final construction, each La Bella string is built with a single purpose in mind: performance. And why do so many players trust their tone to La Bella? Because La Bella wastes no time on gimmicks and dubious claims. Instead, the company leans on four centuries of experience to craft magically musical strings. They carefully control how the wire is tempered, wrap wire ratios, winding techniques, and much more. What results are outstanding single strings designed harmoniously with the rest of the strings in its set, producing unrivaled musicality and sonic consistency. That’s one of the many reasons La Bella is considered one of the foremost string makers for guitar, bass, and orchestral instruments.
