A Pro Metal Snare with Attitude
This Pearl Free Floater snare drum has everything you expect in a pro snare. The lustrous 1.2mm phosphor bronze shell has a sensitive touch and plenty of punch, pop, and bite to cut through a mix. Pearl's Free-floating lug system gives the shell full agency to ring out unhindered by hardware. And a pair of Pearl MasterCast die-cast hoops gives this drum a dry, focused, studio-ready attack and powerful rimshots. Sweetwater drummers know that players who are particular about snare tension will love Pearl's Click Lock Throw Off mechanism, which snaps into place to keep snares from loosening under heavy playing.

Pearl has a decorated history in great-sounding metal snares, from its budget Export/Export Select snares of yesterday to today's SensiTone Elite and cast Reference snares. The Free Floater's 1.2mm phosphor bronze shell has a crunchy top end and beefy midrange with some definite attitude. Tune down for a Zeppelin vibe, or crank up and let those overtones loose for dance hall, reggae, punk, and metal.
Free-floating lugs for better tone and shell swappingPearl's Free-floating lug system provides a number of benefits over traditionally mounted lugs. First, keeping the lugs off the shell reduces drilling and prevents heavy hardware from inhibiting shell vibrations. This theoretically provides a purer tone and louder sound. Second, the floating lugs allow for more independent top and bottom tunings - you can crank your bottom head and keep your top head loose for a deep punch without sacrificing snare response. Finally, this system lets you swap in other Free-floating shells in a matter of minutes. This is a cost-effective way to audition other shell sizes and shell compositions for different music styles.
High-mass MasterCast hoops deliver a crisp, dry attackA pair of MasterCast die-cast hoops give the Free-floating snare a dry attack, good projection and note separation, and powerful rimshots and cross-sticks. As a result, you may find you need less muffling on this drum compared to snares with triple-flanged hoops.
