The Magic’s in the Shells
DW acoustic drum shells start with the finest plies of maple, cherry, oak, mahogany, purpleheart, and more. Plies are arranged vertically, horizontally, or diagonally (identified by names like HVX or VLT) to generate an ideal blend of tone and resonance. Then they’re pressure-molded at high heat before being cool-tempered to crystallize the glue. This creates a shell that is strong, in-round, and phenomenally resonant.
The shells are then treated to DW’s proprietary shell hardware, which may include Graduated Counter Hoops tailored to each drum size, STM Suspension Tom Mounts to maximize sustain, fine-threaded True-Pitch tension rods for exacting tuning precision, and MAG snare throw-offs paired with 3P butt plates for persnickety snare performance.
Even the drumheads used on a DW acoustic drum set have been made to custom spec by Remo USA then tuned to perfection by DW’s acoustic drum experts to provide the ultimate out-of-the-box drumming experience.
