Superstar Classic Drum Designs
While TAMA Superstar drum kits were traditionally made from birch, modern Superstar Classic drum sets are built almost exclusively from thinner gauge maple drum shells, though some exotic models have other outer plies. The real key is in the molding and bearing edges, which result in a drum shell that’s light and responsive but offers the cannon-like projection and clarity that many of today’s live drummers demand. And with a variety of configurations and both lacquer and unicolor wrap finishes available, there are a lot of TAMA Superstar Classic drum kits to choose from. But that’s just the beginning.
TAMA Superstar Classic Drum Hardware
TAMA Superstar Classic drums feature a collection of innovative drum hardware that enhances their tone and clarity. For starters, TAMA’s L-Rod and Omnisphere tom holder systems combine to provide Superstar Classic drum kits with a limitless range of tom positioning, while minimizing drum shell contact. The result is free-floating resonance that makes the most of the natural qualities of the maple drum shells.
Going hand in hand with TAMA’s L-Rod and Omnisphere systems is the TAMA Star-Mount System. This system enhances the resonance of the TAMA Superstar Classic drums by providing support at four specific points on the batter side of the top drum hoop. With the way the eye bolts move, you can keep them from touching and dampening your drum shells. That’s particularly important if you’re setting up a tight drum kit or if you like your toms close together.
Finally, there are the little details. For example, each TAMA Superstar Classic shell features Low-Mass lugs specifically formulated for the line, which allow the drum shells to resonate freely. Finishing touches include TAMA’s Power Craft II drumheads on all of the drums except the snare drum, which features a Duo batter head. Add to that a classic TAMA T-shaped badge, and you have the whole Superstar legacy packed into a delightfully modern series.
