Windows ME installation instructions for the M-Audio USB Duo
Make sure the Duo USB is NOT connected to the computer and no application is opened before beginning the installation!
This guide explains the Windows Millenium Edition (ME) installation of the new M-Audio Duo USB driver, starting from Version 1.28rc2. Previous version of the driver install differently!
1) Please download the driver version 1.28rc2 from our webpage. Click here to go to the driver download page.
2) In the field “Product”, select the “Duo USB”.
3) In the field “Any”, select “Windows ME”.
4) Click “Submit”.
5) Click on the Filename “Duo128rc2Beta.exe” to download the archive containing the driver. Make sure to save it to your desktop.
6) Insert a formatted and empty floppy disk in the floppy drive.
7) Double-click on the downloaded file (Duo128rc2Beta.exe) to open the extraction tool that helps you to extract the driver installer to the floppy disk.
8) Click “Extract”.
9) When “Extraction completed. Do you want to run the following program” is displayed, make sure to click “Yes”. This readme file will give you some additional tips for the installation. Close this window once you read the document completely.
10) Double-click on “My Computer”.
11) Double-click “3 1/2 Floppy (A:)”.
12) Double-click “Duo_12800-rc2_web.exe” to run the driver installer.
13) This wizard will guide you through the installation process. CAREFULLY READ the displayed instructions – click “Next” once you have read and understood the instructions.
14) When prompted, connect the Duo USB to your computer’s USB port and to a power outlet. Power on the Duo.
15) Windows’ “Add New Hardware Wizard” will come up and tell you that “The wizard searches for new drivers for: “USB Audio Device (…possibly you will see another file name here)”. The Duo USB installer you ran in Step 12 of this guide prepared all the necessary files, so you won’t have to change any settings in the process of running the “Add New Hardware Wizard”. Just click “Next” on each of the displayed screens and “Finish” at the last screen.
16) (*) Windows will recognize the Duo USB and automatically copy the driver files to the right locations. Even if it might look like the computer has finished this task, please wait at least 2 minutes before you continue, since it might still copy files in the background – invisible to you. (More information on this at the end of this guide).
17) Being brought back to the “M-Audio USB Duo Installed Successfully” screen, click “Next”.
18) The driver installer will inform you that “Your computer needs to be rebooted”. Make sure to check “Yes, restart my computer now” and click “Finish”. Your computer will restart.
19) After your computer is booted back up, you can start using the M-Audio Duo USB.
(*) Depending on what has been previously installed on your computer, you might get a message that looks something like this:
——Version Conflict: A file being copied is older than the file currently on your computer. It is ——-recommended that you keep your existing file.
——File name: ksuser.dll, stream.sys, (possibly some additional filenames)
——Description: User CSA Library
——Your version: 4.90.3000.400
——Do you want to keep this file? Yes/No
Make sure you select “No” in every one of these Dialogs. This will cause the existing file to be overwritten. This is necessary to ensure the consistency and compatibility of all files that are installed with the Duo USB.
