Waves: Authorizing an iLok.

Compliments of Waves.com

Authorizing an iLok key is available on any computer that has Internet connection and a free USB port.

It is highly recommended to set Internet Explorer as your default browser before proceeding with authorizing your iLok key. Visit www.waves.com/content.asp?id=1397#IE_default_browser
for quick instructions on setting IE as default browser on any Mac OS.

Also, before proceeding with your authorization, be sure to do the following to initialize you iLok:

A) AS AN XP/sp2 USER MAKE SURE THE FOLLOWING SYSTEM SETTINGS ARE ENABLED: My Computer > Properties > Advanced > “Performance” > Settings > Data Execution Prevention. Turn on DEP for essential windows programs & services only.

B) Download and Install the latest “Interlok Drivers Installer” for Windows at http://www.paceap.com/gdldrvr.html. When extracted this ZIP file will create an “Interlok Driver Installer” folder containing a setup.exe file. Run this executable to update Windows with the latest Interlok (I-Lok) driver info.

C) FIRST TIME I-LOK USE requires driver install for the I-Lok key Insert the I-Lok key in an available USB port. The Windows hardware wizard will auto-invoke and request connection to Windows Update for a driver. Respond “No, not at this time”. Select “Install the software automatically”, then select the Pace I-Lok Driver “…ILok.drvr.inf” file. This will correctly install your I-Lok key as a USB device. NOW you are ready to complete online authorization for your various Waves products.

1. Make sure you have Waves iAuthorizer installed on the computer you intend to authorize the iLok key with, and an iLok key plugged to the computer’s USB port. If you don’t have Waves iAuthorizer, download it from www.waves.com/content.asp?id=10
or look for it in the Waves folder created on installation.
2. Log into your Waves user account. Go to www.waves.com > Users > My Account.
3. Click the “Authorize iLok” button.
4. The page will display a list of all the products you have in your account that are eligible for iLok authorization. Read the notes on this page as they will include any latest relevant information. Select and check-mark the actual products you wish to authorize to the iLok key currently plugged to the computer, and click the “Next” button.
5. You are now prompted to enter your iLok serial number. Take note to enter the number accurately. The number should be on a sticker on your iLok key. If missing, launch Waves iAuthorizer – its first screen displays the key’s serial number. Copy and enter the number into the appropriate field in the browser window and click Next.
6. The page will prompt you to run the iAuthorizer application. This step concludes all you have needed to do in your account.
7. Launch iAuthorizer. iAuthorizer will now search for a plugged key and will inform you of your iLok key serial number. Note to leave the “Use license card” unchecked. Click the “Next” button.
8. In the following page choose “Internet Activation” and click Next..
9. iAuthorizer is now connecting to the server. The page displays your Challenge and prompts you to enter the Response code. In parallel your browser will launch and display a page with the Response code. Copy the Response code from the browser window and paste it into iAuthorizer. Click Next.
10. Your iLok key is now being burned with Waves authorizations. Once the process is done, the screen will inform you of successful completion.
11. Your key is now authorized.

Note: PC User – If you’re using Waves products on a Windows platform, you need to follow the below steps after completing the above:

1. Plug your iLok key to the computer you intend to use it in.
2. If iAuthorizer is not installed on the computer you use iLok on, then install iAuthorizer.
3. If the bundle you’re authorizing is already installed and authorized on your computer, then you are required to re-install it. This is done by running Setup twice, once to uninstall and the second time to re-install. Otherwise, proceed to the next step.
4. From the Start menu, launch Start/Waves/Unregister Unauthorized Plug-ins. The application will run a few seconds and exit automatically.
If you plug an iLok key that carries authorizations to bundles that are NOT installed on the computer the key is plugged into, you will need to perform the above five steps again.

If you unplug your iLok key from a computer that has other Waves products authorized to disk, and do not intend to use that key on that computer again, then perform the last above step only (step 4).
