VSL: What is the Performance Tool?

Basically the Performance Tool provides you the ability to play authentically phrased passages by automatically triggering the proper transition samples based on your keyboard performance. This works for our Legato Performances as well as for the Repetition Performances.

Our basic idea follows the nature of making music: Musicians don’t think (and feel) in single notes but rather in tone passages or melodies. So we established a system, that makes every naturally played tone of a recorded passage accessible, by dissecting the first, second, etc., note, leaving the ambience of its predecessor to be the authentic and natural connector between the notes of the passage (which is why we call it Performance!).

This is what it looks like when you first open it:

The numbers represent your MIDI channels, the inPort is your MIDI-InPort, the outPort is the Port of the sampling-platform you want to apply the chosen mode to.

The Performance Tool comes with 3 modes:

Legato Mode for use with samples of the Performance Set
Repetition Mode for use with samples of the Performance Set
Alternation Mode for use with samples of the Orchestral Cube & Performance Set

You can apply one of these modes to each MIDI channel.

Its job is to remap your MIDI information automatically. In the background, it interprets your playing and references an intelligently structured mapping scheme to trigger the proper transition sample, all in less than 1 millisecond. The result is an authentic recreation of a naturally fluid performance based on your choices as a composer, and conductor! You can of course store all of your settings of the Performance Tool!
