How do I update my EZBus?

EZbus: V. 101 – February 7, 2002
EZbus firmware V. 101 contains the following new features:

– Fully-parametric mid-band EQ on each audio channel
– Digital optical output compatibility with a wider range of devices, including Digidesign 001, Echo Layla 24, Wavecenter PCI, and Frontier Designs Dakota.
– Power-up test routine
– System diagnostics

– A Windows ME system update is also included

To update your EZbus:
Step One: Windows ME Only
Download the EZbus Firmware Update to your hard drive. The Zipped file contains an INF file (EZbusME.inf) to update your computer’s operating system, and the EZbus Firmware Update v. 101 file to update the EZbus. Be certain to install the EZbusME.inf file prior to installing the EZbus Firmware v. 101 file, as per the instructions in Step Four, below.

Download the current firmware version at:
http://www.event1.com/ezbus/firmware.htm

Step Two: Windows XP Only
Download the EZbus Firmware Update to your hard drive.

Step Three
Unzip the update file to your desktop (or other location on your system that’s easy for you to remember).

Step Four: Win ME Only
1) Right-click on My Computer and select Properties
2) Click on the Device Manager tab.
3) Click on the plus sign next to Sound Video and Game Controllers, then highlight EZbus.
4) Click on the EZbus Properties button, then click the Driver tab.
5) Click on the Update Driver button, and select “Specify the location of the driver.” Click the Next button.
6) In the next window, put a check mark next to “Specify location,” then press the Browse button to point Windows to the unzipped EZbusME.inf file on your desktop.
7) Click Next, then Next, then Next again, followed by Finish. This will complete the update of your computer operating system. Proceed to Step Five to install the EZbus firmware update.

Step Five
IMPORTANT: Prior to updating your EZbus, use the EZbus Mix Librarian (accessed via the EZbus Tray Menu) to save any custom mixes that you may have created. Note that all Mixes resident in the EZbus will be overwritten when you load new firmware into the EZbus. Once the new firmware is loaded, you can reload your Mixes into the EZbus from the Mix Librarian.

Step Six
Turn off your monitors and/or remove your headphones. Significant noise may be present in the audio path while the firmware is downloading into the EZbus.

Step Seven
Connect a USB cable to the EZbus and to your Win Me or Win XP computer. Power on the EZbus.

Step Eight
Locate the EZbus Firmware Update v101.exe file that you placed on your desktop. Double-click on the file and follow the on-screen prompts to update your EZbus firmware.

While the firmware is updating, the EZbus LCD will read:

1. Programming serial eeprom
2. Programming flash memory
3. Powercycle to reset

After the last message, turn off your EZbus, wait a few moments, then turn your EZbus back on. Your EZbus will now contain the updated firmware.

*Make sure not to turn off the power to either the computer or the EZBus, and that the computer does not crash during the process, or the EEPROM on your EZBus may need to be serviced to re-flash the memory.
