Troubleshooting your Dave Smith Instruments synthesizer.
Please follow the guidelines below from Dave Smith Instruments for general troubleshooting of your DSI instrument.
If you disconnect the instrument from your MIDI system, does the issue persist?
Please remove all MIDI/USB cables. If removing MIDI/USB cables resolves an issue with the instrument, this indicates that the instrument itself is not at fault, but that MIDI messages from another device are causing abnormal/unexpected behavior.
If you reset the Global Parameters/System Parameters, does the issue persist?
All of our instruments currently in production feature a “reset globals” procedure, either as an option in the Globals menu or as a combination of switch presses. Resetting the Global Parameters restores all of the non-program specific settings to their factory default.
For instruments with wheels and/or sliders: If you calibrate the wheels/sliders, does the issue persist?
Wheel calibrations usually solve issues wherein the instrument is not in tune. Wheel/slider calibration procedures are either an option in the Globals menu or a combination of switch presses.
If you calibrate the analog oscillators and/or filters, does the issue persist?
All of our instruments feature analog filters and/or oscillators, and have a calibration procedure which, while typically not necessary to perform very often if at all, can resolve certain issues. Our instruments with all digital oscillators (Prophet 12/Pro 2) feature an “Autotune Filters” option in the Globals menu. In the Tempest, calibration is initiated in the System Actions menu. On the others, calibration is performed by a combination of switch presses.
