How do I syncrhonize ProTools to my DA88 (DA78, DA98, or DA38)

The following is a list of steps for sending MTC from a DA88 to ProTools. A midi interface is required, unless you are using the Digi001 (which has a midi i/o port).
While omitted from these steps, using a word clock (or digital audio) connection is also recommended (allowing either ProTools or the DTRS to reference the other system as a master clock)

1. On the DA88, set time code to be generated by ABS
-hold DISPLAY and press \/ . Te TC LED will light.
-press and old either /\ or \/ and press the other.
-press DISPLAY twice. The display will look like this:
::: t. out tc :::
-Press /\ or \/ to change the “Tc” to “ABS”
-to switch the display bac kto the TC mode, press DISPLAY

* For other Tascam DTRS’ see manuals for setting MTC out to generate timecode from ABS

2. Connect MIDI OUT from the DA88 to the MIDI IN of your midi interface or Digi001.

3. Launch OMS, click once on your midi interface (or digi001), then select NEW DEVICE from OMS’ Studio menu.
Choose “manufacturer” = Tascam, “Model” = DA88/SY88, the click OK (do not change any of the properties in the device information windwo.
Be sure that the DA88/SY88 icon is connected to the same port in the picture, as it it is on your midi interface (or digi001).
Save OMS and QUIT.

4. Launch ProTools and open a session (or create a new session). From the SETUPS menu, choose PERIPHERALS.
In the Peripherals window, choose the “synchronization” tab. Make “device”+”Generic MTC Reader”, and “port”=”DA88/sy88”.
Click OK in peripherals.

5. From ProTools’ MIDI menu, choose “Input Devices”. Place an “x” in the box next to the DA88/SY88. Then click OK.

6. Put ProTools “online”. Press play on the DA88. ProTools should sync to the DA88’s incoming MTC.
To watch for MTC, use ProTools “Session Setup window”. “current time” will show and running clock if MTC is being recieved. *”Session start” in the Session Setup window” defaults to 01:00:00:00 (One hour). set the session start time to match the starting time of audio on the DA88 tape.
