Steps for syncing Performer or Digital Performer MIDI in the background to ProTools / Syncing ProTools and Digital Performer

(A) Setting up OMS and FreeMIDI

1. Install OMS 2.3.8, then install FreeMIDI 1.48… restart your computer.
*MAKE SURE OMS IS INSTALLED FIRST

2. Launch OMS Setup (opcode folder, OMS folder) and create a new setup.
*make sure the IAC driver is enabled & that OMS finds the MTPAV
3. In the Edit menu choose OMS MIDI setup. Make sure Run MIDI in background is enabled.
4. (Add devices to OMS as needed) Save the new OMS setup then Quit OMS
5. Launch FreeMIDI (Mac HD, FreeMIDI Applications folder, FreeMIDI Setup)
6. Upon launch, you should get the freemidi preferences window. place a check mark in the box next to “Use OMS When Available”. (FreeMIDI’s preferences are also available in FreeMIDI’s FILE menu)
11. click OK, save freemidi, then QUIT
12. when you reopen freemidi, it should reflect the settings you made in your new OMS setup.

(B) Setting up ProTools and Digital Performer to sync;

1. Launch Digital Performer. Make sure AUDIO SYSTEM says MIDI ONLY
2. In Digital Performer’s file menu/preferences verify “play in background” is selected.
3. From the Basics menu choose receive sync. Set the sync PORT to the IAC bus and sync TYPE to MTC. In the Basics menu choose Slave to External Sync. Press the play button in the transport window so that it’s waiting for sync (blinking BLUE play button).
4. Launch ProTools. In the session setup window check “MTC to port” and choose theIAC bus. When you play ProTools Performer/Digital Performer should slave in the background.
