How to Place the Hearing Aids Behind Your Ears

Placing the hearing aids behind your ears couldn’t be easier. You just need to remember that the left hearing aid with the left receiver has a blue tip,and the right hearing aid with the right receiver has a red tip.

  1. Place the hearing aid over your ear and hold the receiver where it bends.
  2. Gently insert the receiver into your ear until it sits flush with the temple of your head.
  3. You want to push it far enough so it sits flush with your head, but there should never be pain when you insert it!
  4. Wear them for a few hours. If they feel uncomfortable, you may need to swap the receivers out for a different size. Here is a link on how to exchange your receiver.

Replacing the Ear Domes

Soundwave has included ear domes in multiple shapes and sizes to cater not only to comfort, but to sound as well! While it can take a little more force than expected, removing and replacing them is straightforward!

Installing the Sport Locks

Your Soundwave OTC hearing aids come with two sport locks that help hold the hearing aid’s receiver in your ear if the proper ear-dome size is not enough. This is particularly useful for when you’re active and on the go. All you need to do is thread the lock through the receiver loop and insert it to the bowl (concha) of your ear.

Pairing Your Hearing Aids

Your Soundwave Sontro OTC hearing aids are paired to your mobile device via Bluetooth. Soundwave has made it simple, as you just need to turn on Bluetooth on your device — the app will take care of the rest!

If you paired the hearing aids to a different device beforehand and they don’t show up on your current device, press and hold the volume down button for 10 seconds. This will ensure they’re no longer paired with anything else. Check out our Android and iOS guides to learn more about how to work with Bluetooth devices.

Set Up and Use the otoTune App

NOTE: Be sure you’re in a quiet place before taking the test, or the results will be inaccurate.

Your Sontro OTC hearing aids are controlled by the very intuitive and easy-to-use otoTune app. After registering your hearing aids, you will be prompted to take a three-minute test. This test will assist in calibrating the hearing aids so you get the best performance possible. You can then view the results and press Program to calibrate your hearing aids.

Once they’re calibrated, you can control and customize the settings for your hearing aids, including everything from setting the mode to equalizing the hearing aids for even clearer sound! Depending on your location and environment, you may consider changing the mode to optimize your hearing aids for the most precise sound.

Soundwave Sontro OTC Hearing Aid Care and Maintenance

Your hearing is essential, and keeping your hearing aids in tip-top shape will ensure they sound brand-new for years to come. Sontro has included an ear-dome cleaner brush to help remove impacted ear wax in the middle of your ear domes.  The ear domes should be cleaned before you go to bed each night and should be changed once per month.  Replacement wax guards, which you should also replace once every  month, can be ordered through the hearsoundwave.com website. They’re under the Accessories tab.

Changing the Batteries

Your hearing aids use 312 batteries, and they have approximately a four-day battery life. If one of the hearing aids begins to sound quieter or starts crackling, it’s likely due to the battery. The easiest way to monitor the battery life is through the otoTune app, which will display the battery life percentage.
