When I select “Digidesign HW” in Digital Performer’s DP4 (4.12) Configure Hardware Driver window then click OK, DP freezes and I get the spinning “beach-ball.”
There have been several reports of problems with the Digidesign CoreAudio driver and Digital Performer 4. While no clear solution has been found, here are some things to try.
First, make sure you’ve got the latest version of Digital Performer and the latest version of ProTools, including Digidesign CoreAudio drivers.
Next, follow these exact steps, and you MIGHT be able to get this combination working.
1. Quit all applications.
2. Open the Mac HD > Users > you user name (the house icon) > Library > Preferences. Inside this Preference folder, locate the following items and drag them to the TRASH:
– com.digidesign.protools.plist
– com.motu.digitalperformer.plist
– DAE Prefs
– Digisetup.OSX
– Digital Performer
– ProTools LE v….. Preferences
3. Empty the TRASH
4. Restart the computer.
5. Go to the Disk Utility, found in Applications > Utilities. Select your main OSX system drive, and click the First Aid button. Below click “Verify Disk Permissions.” Once complete, click “Repair Disk Permissions”.
6. Once complete, QUIT the Disk Utility.
7. Go to Applications > Digidesign and launch the “Digidesign CoreAudio Setup”. Here, click the “Supported Applications…” button. Look for “Digital Performer,” click to select it, then click the button “Remove selected application.”
After removing DP from the list, click the button “Add new application” and select the latest version of Digital Performer you have installed. * (Note, be sure to trash old versions of Digital Performer, keeping only the latest version installed). Then quit the Digidesign CoreAudio Setup.
8. Launch ProTools and verify that your Digidesign hardware is detected in the Hardware window.
9. Quit ProTools
10. Launch Digital Performer, and try selecting Digidesign HW in the Configure Hardware Driver window.
This applies to the Digi001, Digi002, Digi002R, MBox. It has been found to be most effective with the Digi001, but sometimes helps with the 002 series.
