How do I record in from a DAT machine into Mbox?
You must use 75ohm coaxial RCA cables, not just regular RCA cables for the digital transfer from a DAT machine.
Connections:
S/PDIF Out of DAT > S/PDIF In, Mbox. For recording into Pro Tools.
S/PDIF In of DAT < S/PDIF Out, Mbox. For recording out of Pro Tools.
In Pro Tools:
1) Setups menu > Hardware > Ch. 1 – 2 input: > Set to S/PDIF (RCA).
Sync Mode to “S/PDIF (RCA)”. Now the S/PDIF light with light up on Mbox. The Pro Tools’ sample rate must match the sample rate on the DAT (44.1k or 48k) – also in Hardware window.
2) Create a Stereo Audio Track. File menu > New Track. Create a stereo audio track.
3) Set Input to stereo audio track to “In 1 – 2 (Stereo)”.
4) Press the record enable button on stereo audio track.
5) You will get signal into Pro Tools when you press play on the DAT.
6) Press record and play on the transport to begin recording into Pro Tools.
REMEMBER to set the Sync Mode back to “Internal” after you are done with the digital transfer. (Setups menu > Hardware > Sync Mode).
REMEMBER to set the Ch. 1 – 2 input back to “Analog” when you are going to record from the Source 1 or 2 inputs (Analog) on Mbox. (Setups menu > Hardware > Ch. 1 – 2 input: Analog).
