Can I quantize with the Sequencer of the XP?
Quantize
It would be nice if every rhythm we played was perfect, but for those of us who are rhythmically challenged the
XP-50 gives us a way to correct our mistakes. The Quantize function takes the information you play and adjusts it
to the nearest specified subdivision of the beat. You can choose to quantize as you play (Input Quantize) or after
you have finished (Track Edit Quantize).
To quantize the notes as they are input use the following procedure:
1) Press SEQUENCER.
2) Press REC and then cursor down to the Quantize Standby display.
3) Under Type, select GRID or SHUFFLE.
4) Set the resolution to match the smallest subdivision you are going to play (i.e. For an eighth note hi-hat Part you
would set the quantize resolution to an eighth note).
5) Cursor back up to the Track Standby display and continue with the recording procedure as we discussed in the
previous section.
If you wish to quantize something that has already been recorded, use the following procedure:
1) From the sequencer display press EDIT so that it is lit.
2) Press QUANTIZE.
3) Cursor to Type and select 01:GRID.
4) Set the resolution as we did for Input Quantize.
5) Cursor right to Measure and set the range of measures to quantize.
6) Cursor to Channel and select which channel(s) are going to be quantized.
7) Cursor to Note to set a range of notes to be quantized.
8) Cursor right to Target to select the Track(s) to be quantized.
9) Hold SHIFT and press RESET to return your song to the beginning.
10) Press PLAY to preview the changes.
11) Press ENTER to complete the quantize operation.
If the end result of the Grid quantize is too “straight” or computer-like for you, try experimenting with the Shuffle or
Groove quantize functions.
Note: The Groove quantize function is not available for Input Quantize.
