PRO TOOLS ALERT: My AVG antivirus software quarantined/trashed my ‘DirectIO.dll’ file, and now Pro Tools won’t open on my PC. What can I do?
We have found some cases where AVG’s antivirus software is detecting the file ‘DirectIO.dll’ as a virus and quarantines or removes the file from the computer, causing Pro Tools not to open on Windows systems.
To get around this, we recommend removal of the AVG software from the computer and then a run-through of our PC Optimization Guides:

After completing both guides, completely uninstall Pro Tools. You can do this in one of two ways:
1) Using the “Add or Remove Programs” control panel, choose “Remove,” then choose the option to uninstall “Pro Tools, Device Drivers, Preferences, Databases and MIDI Devices/Patch Settings.” This is the best uninstallation option.
2) Follow Knowledge Base article 31656 (https://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/ts/detail.php?Index=31656&keyword=surgical%20uninstall). Use this option only if the above removal is unsuccessful.
After uninstalling, reinstall Pro Tools. This should solve the problem.
