Does Pro Tools 9 allow you to created and use hardware inserts like previous versions did?
Yes! As long as your audio interface has a corresponding input and output (for example, input 3 and output 3), Pro Tools 9 can use an external device as an insert. See page 997 of the Pro Tools 9 Reference Guide.
