Can I use the O2R96 as a control surface in Nuendo?

Yes, but there are many factors involved to achieve success. Follow the instructions below carefully for proper setup.

(A) O2R setup:

*NOTE: You must have the usb cable coming from the usb port of the O2R directly into the MAC or a POWERED hub and not the keyboard port. You also must have 2 midi cables connected to your midi interface with 2-way communication

1) Install the yamaha USB driver from the CD that comes with the O2R96.
2) install the Studio manager software from that same disc and run that software to ensure that you have USB communication.
3) Press the SETUP button.
4) Move your cursor to the DAW parameter and choose USB.
5) Move your cursor to the GENERAL parameter and choose MIDI on the Rx and Tx options.
6) Hit the REMOTE key.
7) Move your cursor to the TARGET parameter and choose NUEDNO.
8) Now in the LAYER section of the board hit the REMOTE button.

(B) NUENDO Setup:

*NOTE: You must be running Nuendo version 1.6 for this to work.

1) Launch Nuendo and choose a project.
2) Go to DEVICES >DEVICE Setup.
3) On the right side of the box there are tabs at the top that say SETUP and ADD REMOVE.
4) Choose ADD REMOVE.
5) There will be a list of controller devices there. Choose YAMAHA DM2000, then select ADD.
6) Press ADD (2) more times until you see 3 YAMAHA DM2000’s in the menu on the left.
7) Now highlight the 1st Yamaha DM2000 and on the right side you will have to choose a midi input and output. If you have installed your YAMAHA USB driver properly, you will see a set of O2R96 ports.
8) Choose O2R96 port 1 for the input and output,
9) Highlight your 2nd YAMAHA DM2000.
10) On the right side choose O2R96 port 2 for the input and output.
11) Highlight your 3rd YAMAMA DM2000.
12) Choose O2R96 port 3 then exit from this window.
13) Now go to TRANSPORT>SYNC setup.
14) The top right parameter should be MIDI machine control settings – which has all of the possible midi ports that you can choose from.
15) Choose which MIDI ports (in and out) you are using to send MMC from and to (remember in beginning – you had to attach midi cables to your midi interface for 2 way communication? Whatever port you attached your midi cables to, is the port that you choose for this).
16) Exit this window and you should be all set to go.

At this point, the O2R should show that it is on-line and on the Nuendo transport it should show OFF LINE – remember, do NOT push the online button on the Nuendo transport. This would force Nuendo to look for incoming Timecode from a different source.
