… “when they try to load samples into their K2500 they get a mechanical static sound over the samples… what causes this?” Sample Static / Sample Noise / Output Noise
“Static” is a symptom of corrupted sample data (incorrect 1’s and 0’s in the wrong place). How it got corrupted can have many reasons:
RAM / SIMMs
– Bad Sample SIMMs
– Incompatible Sample SIMMs
– Improperly seated Sample SIMMs
– Incorrect Voltage Setting (3v or 5v) for SIMMs (K2600 only)
SCSI
– Bad SCSI Cable
– Improper SCSI Termination
– SCSI Chain too long
MEDIA
– Incompatible CD-ROM Drive
– Scratched CD-ROM
– A Bad Floppy
OPERATIONAL, etc.
– Too many Samples loaded into Kurzweil (Once Samples start piling up at ID#999 that’s it, the only thing left is corruption.)
– A Kurzweil File Download that got corrupted along the way.
– If unit is a K2500 and has KDFX, it could be that it needs the correct PAL Chip.
– It could be that the customer previously loaded bad samples which messed up the sample pointers in RAM. If that happens then all samples loaded after may also seem bad. (Hard Reset the Kurzweil.)
