Can I insert an effect in Cakewalk Sonar version 1, 2, 3, or 4 on the input side, before it is actually recorded to disk?
No, effects can only be applied in realtime, non-destructively. You will be able to hear the effect in realtime while recording if input monitoring is enabled, but the track itself will record dry, without the effect.
