DirectConnect Troubleshooting

MIDI stops being sent between applications if ProTools is not the foreground application.
In OMS go to the Edit Menu-> OMS midi setup option, within this setup window there should be a check mark next to Run MIDI in Background.

The IAC Bus option is not available as an input in my Native Instruments MIDI settings.
IAC Stands for Inter Application Communication and its job is to act as an internal MIDI router for the Macintosh. It allows you to send and receive MIDI between all OMS compatible software. If you don’t have this option for an output in you MIDI track- or as an input in your MIDI settings- you then must set this up in OMS.

To set up the IAC Bus, open up the application OMS and then open up your current studio setup. In this setup you should see the virtual representation of your MIDI studio. If the item named “IAC Driver” is not present you must reinstall OMS and make sure you chose to install the IAC Driver in the install process. Once this IAC Driver is a part of you OMS Studio Setup you can then use this with in ProTools or another app that supports OMS to pass MIDI from one application to another. You have 4 IAC busses to work with and the first one’s default name is: ∞ IAC Bus #1, you can change the names of these to suit your own organizational needs.

DirectConnect Audio Channels:
Some of the software plug-in products support multiple audio channels through DirectConnect. If so, you will have the option to configure these audio channels in the “Audio Settings” option. (ONLY after you have set your “audio port” to use “DAE/TDM DirectConnect” as your preferred output path.) If there is no support for multiple audio channels, then the “audio settings” option will be gray and not selectable.

Updating your software:
It is advised that you check for updates for all relevant applications. These include updates for your Native Instruments products.

Please also make sure you are running the latest version of DigiDesign’s DirectConnect, this can be found at DigiDesign’s website.
