Digi001 an “new” Dual Processor G4’s (with mirrored drive doors)
8/29/02 – Digidesign has identified a problem with the new Apple Dual 867 and Dual 1 GHz CPUs when using Digi 001 PCI host cards with chip version #3F48S.
Digi 001 host cards have a large DSP chip that is located just above the area on the card that is inserted into the PCI slot. The version number (either 3F48S or 2K30A) is printed on the chip.
Digi 001 systems with the 3F48S revision host cards hang on startup when trying to load the DigiSystem INIT extension. Digidesign is researching the problem and will post more information here as it becomes available.
– The only workaround is to disable the DigiSystem INIT. This will allow the computer to boot up normally. However, when the DigiSystem INIT is disabled, Pro Tools LE cannot be launched.
How to disable the DigiSystem INIT:
– Boot up computer with the Extensions Off: Restart computer while holding down the Shift key.
– Mac Hard Drive > System Folder > Extensions folder > Move the DigiSystem INIT to the Extensions (Disabled) folder > Restart computer.
– The computer should boot up normally.
– Note: Disabling the DigiSystem INIT will not allow Pro Tools LE to be launched.
– Digidesign is currently working on a solution for this problem. Consequently, Digidesign has not yet supported the Apple G4 “Mirrored Drive Doors” (Dual 867 MHz G4, Dual 1 GHz G4, Dual 1.25 GHz G4) computers.
– Please see compatibility documents on the Digidesign website:
