Checking For Shipping Damage

It’s time for a brief lesson in the way shipping companies work. We’ve been down this path before on inSync, but we can never say this too many times. We ship and receive hundreds of products every day here at Sweetwater. From time to time something arrives (to us or from us) with shipping damage. These problems are very rare given how much stuff comes in and out of here (way less than 1%). The shipping companies we deal with are very good normally. Nevertheless strange things can happen from time to time. If you suspect your shipment has been damaged you should contact our service department right away as we can help you get a resolution faster than dealing directly with the shipper (another value of shopping at Sweetwater). We occasionally do run into difficulty, however, with what is known as “concealed shipping damage.” This is a very rare occurrence where the box and maybe even the unit inside it look fine, but there has been a shock sufficient enough to damage an internal component. For this reason (and other reasons that should be obvious) it is imperative that you immediately open each item you receive from anyone and examine the contents, testing equipment where applicable. You only have 14 days from delivery to file a damage claim so it is incumbent upon you to use due diligence and do this examination even if you do not plan to use your new toy for a while. Many of our customers are building rooms where the equipment they are buying may not be put in to use for weeks, or even months. You need to check out your shipments as soon as they arrive regardless of when you plan the use the equipment. This is your responsibility. In fact, our service department recommends that you leave any new equipment turned on for two or three days before putting it in to service in order to find any potential infantile failure problems (see WFTD infantile failure). The ball is in your court.
