A Short-scale Semi-hollow Loaded with Bold Bass Tone
Clocking in with a comfortable short scale length, the Duesenberg Starplayer Bass transports the brand’s most revered 6-string formula into the world of the 4-string. This instrument’s rich and resonant semi-hollowbody voice comes courtesy of a responsive spruce top, maple back and sides, and a feedback-reducing solid center block. To capture the Starplayer Bass’ rich and thumping voice, Duesenberg equipped this bass with two Bassbuckers, powerful humbucking pickups that thunder with a full-range response and nuanced, acoustic-like attack. A stout Medium D maple neck, 12-inch-radius rosewood fingerboard, Duesenberg Z-Tuners, and a Duesenberg Bass Bridge tie everything together, adding up to an immensely versatile 4-string that’s equally at home on the stage or in the studio.

Bassbuckers bring the thump
Crafted in-house by Duesenberg, this instrument’s dual Bassbucker pickups deliver a top-class tone that strikes a perfect balance between full-bodied and articulate. Each pickup boasts its own dedicated volume knob paired with a global tone control and a global mute switch, allowing for all sorts of distinct combinations. All in all, the Starplayer Bass is aimed squarely at the studio musician, offering a wholly distinct semi-hollow sonic flavor that you can’t get from any other 4-string.
Singing semi-hollow construction
Mixing the best of vintage-style semi-hollow construction and modern performance-minded enhancements, the Starplayer Bass’s slim and lightweight design comprises a spruce top, a maple body, and a solid center block. The comfort carries on with a short 30-inch scale length; this common spec among vintage and old-school inspired semi-hollow basses is famed for its thumping attack and acoustic-like decay. On the opposite end, the Starplayer Bass features a rock-solid maple neck carved into Duesenberg’s crowd-pleasing Medium D profile, topped off with a slick 12-inch-radius Indian rosewood fingerboard and 22 jumbo frets.
Duesenberg: the instrumental pride of Deutschland
Founded by German guitar designer Dieter Gölsdorf in 1989, Duesenberg guitars represent a multinational mixing pot of American art deco aesthetics, hot-rod heritage, and exacting German engineering. Duesenberg's utterly distinctive instruments — affectionately dubbed "Doozys" by their adherents — gleam with proprietary parts and pickups that merge the daring appointments of the early electric guitar age with the pinpoint precision of modern manufacturing excellence. From the iconic Starplayer semi-hollow guitars to basses, lap steels, and beyond, every Duesenberg that Sweetwater carries embodies consummate artisanship. Fittingly, this unerring dedication has attracted more than a few luminaries, including the likes of Bob Dylan, Joe Walsh, Mike Campbell, John Mayer, and Tom Bukovac. For the musician who demands superlative performance, idiosyncratic innovation, and master-level musical detail in equal measure, only a Doozy will do.
