Phenomenal Studio Microphone

An instant legend! Grab the MA-300, put it up on the first vocalist or instrument you see, and prepare to be amazed. This large-diaphragm tube condenser microphone performs with a sweet, warm character that's reminiscent of the most famous German microphones of all time. Drawn from the same design of Mojave Audio's renowned MA-200, the MA-300 adds multiple polar patterns to increase the versatility of this in-demand microphone. Now, you can get that rich flavor you want from a primary microphone, while tailoring it to your specific application. In fact, the MA-300's polar patterns are continuously variable from omnidirectional to figure-8, so you'll be able to capture a wide range of instruments and sources. The MA-300 also features a -15dB pad and a highpass filter to add to its versatility in the studio.

A modern condenser mic with classic characteristics

The MA-300 is the culmination of Royer's 20-plus years of custom microphone design. The large-diaphragm MA-300 gives warm, full-bodied reproductions of vocals and instruments without the shrillness and high-frequency grunge so often encountered with modern condenser microphones.

Versatile studio performance on vocals and instruments

Try the MA-300 on lead and background vocals, voice-overs, piano, acoustic instruments, drum overheads, orchestra, spot miking... You'll agree with the engineers who tested this mic that it evokes the characteristics of some of the best-loved vintage European microphones.

Precision construction with quality components

In a world of cookie-cutter imported mics the MA-300 is a breath of fresh air. Using hand-selected 3-micron gold-sputtered capsules, Custom Mojave transformers, and military-grade JAN 5840 vacuum tubes, Royer designed the MA-300 with an eye on premium performance.

Mojave Audio MA-300 Features:

  • Large-diaphragm tube condenser microphone

  • Full, warm reproduction for vocals, piano, acoustic instruments, drum overheads, orchestra, and spot miking

Reviews

Beautiful look, clearly quality.
Tested this mic with guitar, banjo, spoken word, male vox, upright bass and trumpet. First, the mic is weighty and feels well made. It has a professional look but more important it has an ability to pick up instruments that range in dynamics from soft to loud with quality. Like most good tube mics, a round warm capture is what you can expect. However, as with any mic, placement is key. When recording an upright bass, low end boom was easy to experience. Again, placement is key. The mic captures a full range of frequencies and will allow an engineer to enhance or cut where desired without losing quality. Vocals will require a pop filter. With that and the included shock mount you will enjoy clarity and character. The trumpet was strong and clear. The stringed instruments were pleasing. This is a good value and another step above the lower priced mics.

~4 years of happiness and counting
This was the first tube microphone I added to my locker- I heard it against many other microphones (some I aspired to own, others I did own) and I found it pleasant on many sources, so much so that I picked it in a blind test every time. I've owned one for about 4 years now and have used it on everything. In that time I've settled on it as a go-to vocal microphone, particularly on male pop/hip-hop/RnB vocals. I love this mic for that. Set it halfway between cardioid & figure8 and you'll get a bit of top end lift and a little less proximity low mid buildup and it really makes a difference in how quickly I'm able to settle something into a mix. For some singers I work with I wouldn't ever think to set up something else, I'm that happy with it.

Its excellent as part of a Mid/Side drum room. It's a great for keys.

No mic is every mic, regardless of price. I would happily sit this anywhere and make it work, but vocals is where it really shines. Preferably I would go to something darker for acoustic guitar, ribbons for horns, etc. but if you're considering one baller mic on a reasonable budget, this is WELL worth it. If you only record vocals try it, it's wonderful. I'd like another to have a pair for upright.

LOVE this Mic
I've used this baby on vocals, bass, and kick out and wow, it absolutely kills. the detail is fantastic. Great high end without being overly harsh. I used a WA67, but the high end was way too harsh. I feel like this mic accurately produces the sources. On kick-out the pad was so helpful and man on man i LOVE this on the kick out. If you want a U67 type mic, this is an amazing option for a really good price.

Shockingly great!
For reference, I am a recording and mixing engineer.

I set out to buy a microphone in the U47 vibe. I had expected to go with something like the Warm U47 or spend more on a Telefunken option. In conversation with my sales engineer, I was directed to this microphone. I had no prior experience with Mojave. I had heard good things but I tend to be skeptical until getting hands on for myself.

First time I recorded through this mic, I was blown away! I have worked with cheap microphones and VERY expensive microphones. I care significantly about the differences in microphones quality, but don't typically have the budget to purchase top shelf microphones for myself. This microphone is the real deal. The sound was so visceral and "real" sounding. It is the first time I have felt like I was hearing myself I'm my own studio.

I would describe this microphone's sound as expensive, smooth, articulate without being bright, robust through the low mids, and authoritative. Really, I just think it sounds accurate and smooth. This is a recording engineer's microphone, no doubt.

Incredible, Versatile mic. A "must have" for anybody's mic locker.
If you're reading this and wondering how good the MA-300 is, I'm here to tell you that it is better. Warm, modern, sturdy... This mic is a "must have" for anybody's mic locker.

Recording professionals have gone on record saying that Mojave's mics have "reach", i.e. you can place them at a distance from the source they're capturing, and somehow the source will sound much closer than you'd expect. It's true.

Put a MA-300 in front of a small cab running a mid-tier strat with "deader-than-dead" strings and the sound it captures will glow. Place the MA-300 in front of vocals or an acoustic guitar and you'll capture warm and nuanced performances that sound fantastic "right out of the box". These mics need very little, or practically no help for their sound to feel "complete" or "finished".

Lastly: a good mic not only captures sound accurately, it also increases the confidence of the performer... whether that's a singer, a guitar player, or a drummer. This is what the MA-300 - and Mojave as a company - are all about. PS: I bought two, and going forward I'll be buying a lot more Mojave.
