You Need This MIDI Interface!

Sweetwater understands that integrating modern professional multiple-computer setups with iOS devices and traditional MIDI hardware can be a challenge. That's where iConnectivity's iConnectMIDI2+ comes in. This clever MIDI/audio interface not only supports two computer devices simultaneously (Mac, PC, or iOS) - its onboard Audio passThru technology shuttles digital audio between them with absolutely no signal degradation. Think about the possibilities! A soft synth running on your iPad could act as if it were a touch-controlled plug-in instantiated in your DAW. You could process a software instrument in your DAW through an amp simulator on your iPhone. You could even slave your Mac or PC to your iOS device. Now that's versatility! When you consider its modest pricetag, you can't afford to be without iConnectivity's iConnectMIDI2+!

Invaluable tool

Love the fact this is cross platform - Mac, Windows, and iOS. Had it up and running on all 3 without a manual which is readily available from their website. It is an additional $30 for the power adapter so you can charge your iOS device while using it. However, you can bus power it from your computer, and I had excellent results by running a common usb cable from the 2nd port to my iPad/iPhone charger that powered the iConnectmidi. Although that method doesn't charge your device, it didn't seem to decrease battery life on it any faster for me. I've ordered the power supply simply because I love the concept of charging my devices while in use any chance I get. In addition to handling chores on iOS, it's been Rick solid implempenting midi in my UA Apollo Quad/Mac recording rig. I'll never be without one if I can help it.

Does EXACTLY what I need it to

If you need to connect multiple midi devices to your mac and/or iPhone, this is the one. I am able to control my midi keyboard and Strymon Timeline/Disaster Area DPC-5 to this which I can select presets for both my pedal board and midi keyboard patches from EITHER my phone via an iOS app called "Lemur" or from Mainstage. Its pretty incredible. People who gave this less than 4 stars, didn't know what they wanted when they bought it.

The Good, the Bad

It took me just a short time to figure out why the opinions and reviews on this hardware are so divergent. It's simple: Its's primarily an iOS device. After all, the company is called iConnectivity! If you use your iPad, iPod and iPhone to make music, and you want to tie them all together with your keyboard and DAW on your Mac, you'll probably think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. If you are a PC user, don't use iOS devices for music, and just need a MIDI merge box, you'll probably think it's the most over-thought, over-engineered, under-explained thing you've ever seen. (The title page of the User Guide contains--hilariously--the word "Draft." No kidding. I humbly suggest the first order of business should be to polish that up.) Anyway, that's my 2c. worth. It IS both Mac and PC compatible. Great for iOS needs, but if you only need a basic MIDI merge box, this isn't it .

Useless without the $45.00 wall wart

I bought this to use with a lightning ipad. As soon as my ipad goes below 50% charge, all bets are off with this interface. Without the external power supply, this device is useless to me. While they do make it clear in their marketing hype that the wall wart is required to charge the ipad, they certainly don't make it clear that the user should expect to have the apps utilizing the midi data to cease working within an hour of turning it on. I powered the device off a remote usb supply and still got a "This unit will not work due to insufficient power" message on the ipad I really don't understand why the unit is not sold with the wall wart.

What? No MIDI power?

After owning the iConnectiMIDI (original) I was really disappointed this didn't include a USB type A connector for hosting USB MIDI devices. But worse, the MIDI DIN ports don't provide MIDI power on the DIN outputs like you would expect from such a device. As a result, I can't use this to power a Midi Solutions Event Processor, or similar MIDI equipment. Bummer, dude.
