Line Array Sound Built for the Elements
Permanent installations require gear that will still work and sound great even after multiple season changes, and the RCF X 28L is built for the long haul. In addition to its stellar sound, extensive coverage, and near-full-spectrum audio, this passive 2-way line array module is rated IP55, so rain, humidity, and dust are hazards it was explicitly designed to withstand. The X 28L also features EN 54-24 certification, so it can carry program audio and serve as the voice-alarm speaker, which Sweetwater A/V installation experts say is crucial for saving time and money while ensuring you're up to code. Pair it with an XPS Series amplifier and an RCF fly bar (both sold separately), and you have the output and pattern control for large-scale spaces, with up to 16 modules per bar. Altogether, the X 28L’s combination of weatherproofing, life-safety certification, integrated array mechanics, and superb sound quality makes it a speaker you can spec once and leave hanging for years to come.

Aimed output where you need it
The X 28L's core begins with two 8-inch neodymium woofers and a 1.4-inch compression driver, covering 50Hz–20kHz, with 800W of RMS power handling and 140dB of maximum output. The top end fires through RCF's True Resistive Waveguide, which presents the compression driver with a purely resistive, resonance-free load, so your high frequencies stay clean at levels where a conventional horn turns harsh. A passive 750Hz Low Impedance Compensated Crossover (LICC) divides the two to reduce delay and phase shift during the handoff, and the whole module presents a single 8-ohm load to one amplifier channel, wired through a 4-pole barrier strip for in and out connections. The X 28L holds a constant 110-degree horizontal by 20-degree vertical pattern, so listeners off to the sides hear the same tonal balance as those in the middle. From there, integrated array mechanics let you set inter-module angles from 0 to 20 degrees in 2-degree increments with no extra hardware needed to set the splay. Wherever you need sound to travel, the X 28L will deliver it loud and clear.

Built for safety, indoors or out
The X 28L's enclosure is molded from structural polyurethane, which shrugs off the humidity swings that work wooden cabinets loose over time, and its aluminum grille is backed by a water-repellent fabric layer that keeps pouring rain off the drivers. Together, they earn the IP55 rating against dust and low-pressure water from any direction. Practically speaking, that means you can hang the X 28L over an open-air amphitheater or a transit concourse, and you won't be back pulling cabinets down every spring. The X 28L also carries EN 54-24 certification under CPR 0068-CPR-254/2026, which lets it serve as the voice-alarm speaker in a code-governed building, handling both program audio and life-safety announcements.
