Forge Your Own Signature Vocal Sounds

Singular vocal effects have powered hit records and launched careers. As luck would have it, Sweetwater has a multi-effects plug-in that makes it easy to create unique signature vocal sounds. Armed with four powerful vocal engines, iZotope VocalSynth delivers tasty exotic electronic voice textures, robotic sounds, computerized harmony lines, talk-box and vocoder effects, as well as fat 'n' juicy doubles and octaves. With VocalSynth, the sounds you hear in your mind's ear can be forged, fast, with a bevy of tools that include filtration, distortion, beat-repeating, speaker convolution modeling, and stereo delay. And VocalSynth's onboard real-time pitch correction preserves formants, for natural-sounding results.

iZotope VocalSynth at a Glance:
  • Four powerful vocal engines onboard
  • Powerful FX and pitch correction
  • Voice generation and presets
Four powerful vocal engines onboard

iZotope spec'd VocalSynth with four beefy resynthesis engines: Vocoder, Talkbox, Polyvox, and Compuvox. These work in tandem with VocalSynth's high impact vocal effects and streamlined control set. VocalSynth's wavetable synthesis or a sidechained instrument are ideal starting points for synthesized computer-esque voices, organic-sounding harmonies, glitchy digital spoken work, and singing synthesizers.

Powerful FX and pitch correction

To define the sonic character of your vocals, VocalSynth is equipped with a powerful effects engine with variable distortion, filtration, beat-repeating, speaker convolution modeling, and stereo delay. Also onboard is real-time pitch correction that lets you correct off-key notes while preserving the original voice formants (rather than scaling them along with pitch) for natural-sounding results.

Voice generation and presets

In Auto mode, VocalSynth's voice generation capabilities let you stack octaves, harmonies, or unisons - all without MIDI input! Simply select the number of voices, and what intervals you want, and VocalSynth does the grunt work. If you prefer, though, you can drive VocalSynth with your MIDI controller for the precise harmony voicings you're after. If you're after instant gratification, VocalSynth's presets give you immediate access to the sounds of legendary vocal production techniques you've heard on your favorite recordings.

Super versatile

This review is only based on one full night of playing with this plugin from within Logic Pro but so far I'm having a blast with it. As a person with extremely limited vocal chops ( like zero ) I've always been limited in the type of music I could compose and record by myself without recruiting a vocalist. Using this plugin I could monotone my way through a song last night and then make it an interesting vocal track using the vocoder and, setting the key and tweaking all the controls. It was even more fun when I had my daughter sing a verse and then took her great vocal and robotized it to match the rest of the song. There's a lot here for the price and Sweetwater delivered the download in seconds. I'm sure I'll have a lot of weeks of fun to come.

Very Nice but your effort might be required.

I am generally pleased with the plugin, but I have a few problems with the VocalSynth which would not have kept me from buying it. I feel if you are willing to put in an effort to develop your own presets, then you will get the most out of the plugin. My problems are the background noise in the plugin. Some presets don't produce much noise but others produce effects that are noticeable in the silent passages. The demos don't exhibit the noise which makes me wonder if there should have been some setup info to deal with cleaning up the sound. There are helpful presets, but not many. They might just be jumping off points for you to develop your own. The written help guide does not give much information on the various options and settings, but there are helpful videos available. I use Sonar and the general setup instructions did not prove helpful for Sonar, but tech support helped me immediately on a weekend which was a real plus for iZotope support in my mind.

Izotope Vocal Synth

uh . . . . it's completely horrible. Graphs and black interfaces have been done to death. That's the tip of what will be a 'professonal' yet honest discourse on the synth. YEARS ago I had some crazy T.C.Helicon rack unti and ran my booth through it. Preet awful and Izotope's latest offering is right down there with the other dog. Who drew out the interface? Were they speaking in an alien tongue? 1st year High School acolytes from their respective schools music teaching staff is resonably to-the-point and makes sense. The whole GUI is a visible example of what pitfalls the user will encounter. It could NOT be worse as a virtual effects rig. And where is Steven Slate in all this rubbish? Steve's his biggest fan. He's fairly full of himself, and speaks DOWN to those of us who know the bit. That's insulting! These patches are old, been done before, hackneyed beyond words, and basically there isn't enough 'THERE' there . . . . to be of anything but a waste of time. I sugget you visit Rob Papen's online site and learn a little bit. EXTREMELY dissatisfied!!!!!!!!!

Useless and noisy!

I was assured my system met the requirements for this software before I purchased it. I have an I5 processor with 8gb of ram using presonus studio one 3. This software taxes my CPU so much, it's unusable and I'm trying to get a refund since the software is unusable. It's going to take 4-5 weeks to get an answer back from the software developers to even find out if I can get refunded for software that supposedly would run on my system.
