A Powerful Vocal Mic Fit for Myles Kennedy

When Myles Kennedy hits the stage with Alter Bridge, he demands a mic with pro-level sound, rock-solid reliability, and extreme roadworthiness. That's the sE Electronics V7 MK Myles Kennedy signature microphone in a nutshell. This dynamic handheld vocal microphone's specialized aluminum voice coil offers a natural-sounding reproduction of your voice while simultaneously giving it a crisp, open quality. Its supercardioid design yields excellent isolation from stage noise; it also delivers massive amounts of gain before feedback. Rumble and handling noise aren't a problem for the V7, thanks to its integrated shockmount. An internal windscreen prevents wind noise and plosives from ruining your performance. What's more, the V7's road-ready design is all metal — no plastic parts are found here — with a zinc alloy construction and a super-tough beveled spring steel mesh grille. For a stage-ready vocal mic, open your eyes — sE's Myles Kennedy signature V7 is fit for one of the industry's top touring vocalists, and it'll deliver the goods for you, too.

Specialized aluminum voice coil yields a crisp, open sound

By virtue of its custom-developed aluminum voice coil, the Myles Kennedy Signature V7 lends a crisp, open quality to your voice and instruments, but still maintains a natural sound. Enjoy excellent isolation and copious amounts of gain before feedback, thanks to the V7's superbly built supercardioid capsule. When we ran the Myles Kennedy Signature V7 through its paces here at Sweetwater, we were duly impressed by its performance.

Integrated shockmount and internal windscreen ensure top-notch onstage performance

When you take the stage with the sE Electronics Myles Kennedy Signature V7, you don't have to worry about handling noise. An integrated shockmount decouples the V7's capsule, effectively eliminating rumble and other distracting sounds. An internal windscreen reduces unwanted wind noise and plosives. Both red and black windscreens are included, so you can choose which one suits your personal style.

Heavy-duty metal construction, beveled spring steel grille

Made from durable zinc alloy, the road-ready Myles Kennedy Signature V7 is built like a fortress. Its spring steel mesh grille is dent- and corrosion-resistant. Additionally, courtesy of the grille's beveled edge, this microphone won't roll around when you set it down. Rest assured that you'll be using the V7 for years to come, thanks to its high-quality components, including a gold-plated XLR connector.

Reviews

If you want to hear YOUR voice, this is the live mic for you.
I was actually very hesitant to try this microphone. I am a long-time user of the single most popular microphone in the world. And it got me by. But one of the things I didn't like was that I never felt like my actual voice was coming through clearly. Yes it sounded like my voice but no amount of EQ could get the mic to sound clear. I have a vocal style that ranges widely depending on what I am singing. And my previous mic in many situations just did not cut through. There was always this impression in my mind like the sound was coming out of a speaker with a blanket over it. Muffled and muted. Certain frequencies would cut through, but highs and lows were almost washed out in many situations. The more I upgraded my PA equipment the more apparent the lack of clarity and detail became.

Enter the SE V7 Myles Kennedy. This mic is a dream come true for me. I wanted to use it a few days and do A B comparisons between the SE V7MK and my previous mic. The SE just lets me focus on what my task is. My vocal technique. I would say the only downside is the lack of information and the vast amount of misinformation that surrounds this microphone and I dont think SE did enough to truly explain to consumers why this product is different from the rest.

The Myles Kennedy is not just a standard V7 with a road worn finish. These units as you can see in my picture use a specially calibrated version of their DMC7 X capsule. This is traditionally used in there V7X intstrument microphones. There is some debate as to whether its the exact same capsule or if even though they have the same DMC7 X designation that the capsule may be tweaked for vocals or at the very least the internals. I am not sure. What I am sure about I am singing at lower volumes with more control and emphasis on nuance to save my air and breathing for when I need to put more power into my voice or hold a note longer.

Some might be wondering how it handles handling noise and popping. At first I thought it was worse with feedback rejection and off axis noise and getting rumbling or squealing. It actually is better in those areas than my previous "super popular" used by almost everyone mic. This microphone doesnt have hardly any handling noise at all. Pops and plosives are non existent. on this mic when music is at full volume I can slap the top of the mic and it doesnt even come through the PA. My other mic, you can actually hear the sound of the mic shifting in my hands. And if you slap the top of it it could replicate knocking on the top of an acoustic guitar while mic'd up.

The build quality to me is exceptional. The threads to the cover are not the tightest. But they are wide and you never have an issue with cross threading. I think that was a smart move. This grill being made of spring steel and the body made of ZAMAK which is basically an old trade name for a zinc aluminum alloy it only makes sense that you dont have super tight and fine threads when you have two materials of such different strengths. If you have to switch the wind screen out on the fly its much quicker as well as having virtually no chance of stripping or cross threading.

The finish of the microphone is extremely attractive. Its a special plating that they do. And from what I have seen every microphone has a unique pattern. But it is not just a black V7 that was tumbled scratch it up. There is no scratches. The pattern is in the coating itself.

Also the frequency range of this Mic is often listed improperly. Like all V7 vocal mics this one goes up to 19khz but goes down to 30hz instead of 40 like the regular V7.

Even though I could have paid more for another microphone I didnt like them. Just too much work to get me to sound like me.
I would rather spend more time singing and less time fiddling with an EQ. And this microphone allows me to do that.

Many say you can just by a V7X and put the V7 cover on it and its the same effect. Even if it is, the finish of the MK I think is very attractive as well and just makes you want to pick it up. I look for that same mental effect in all my equipment. IF you look at it and you just want to get lost in the music you know its a good product. But the performance exceeding its looks is what makes that possible.

For the record I use this mic for vocal styles ranging everything. From Elton John to Arch enemy. If you have the technique this mic will simply allow you to shine.
Music background: long time hobbyist tone chaser and critical ear.
Very Impressive Sound
I replaced this MK V7 with my old Heil PR 22 for my restaurant gig. Clean, clear audio. Highly recommended!
Finally........my "Go To " mic!
I play in a small group with two girls, 1 singer, 1 guitar player. We make a LOT of music with me on bass and vocals!

We have a small Stage Pas type PA that can be a challenge with proper audio projection.

They both have condenser mics.

I was on the struggle with my SHURES and SENNHEISER.

Thanks to SWEETWATER I viewed the training video for SE products and was impressed by the union of Chinese and German technology.

YOU ARE NOT GETTING THIS MIC OUT OF MY GIG BAG!

We played an outside gig this past weekend in 90+ degree Florida afternoon heat and with my personal monitor, I was THERE!

SUPER MIC, great feel, great look, HAPPY ME!
Music background: Long time, still at it!
REBORN!
With my group, Female Guitarist with pedal mania / Beat Buddy, Female vocalist and me on Bass and vocals hard to get a good sound through a Yamaha Stagepas.
Have worked SM 58-57 and Sennheiser mics but the MK SEV7 is the one that makes me run.
Tried it on a whim and it is awesome!
Clarity and great looks. Built in POP FILTER avoids me looking like I'm trying to eat a foam Ice Cream cone.
Nice work SE!
Job well done! CWL -Sebring FL
Music background: Bass, Vocal, Synth, Production guy!
Replaced my 58's with these
I replaced all of my old SM 58's with these; they sound a bit better to me and have less handling noise/feedback issues. The finish is really cool, is it worth the extra money? Yeah, probably. Excellent build quality, I am sure I will be using these for a very long time.
