Great-sounding mic pres

The Behringer Xenyx UFX1604 is fitted with great-sounding, high headroom Xenyx mic preamps. These cutting-edge pres can hold their own against preamps in consoles costing considerably more then the UFX1604. You get a jaw-dropping 130dB of dynamic range, and a ginormous bandwidth extending from the subsonic to dog frequencies. Add to that a 4-band British-flavored EQ and you're ready to rock. You'll have a newfound respect for your mics when they're plugged into the UFX1604.

Sound-sculpting features

Live sound engineers know the value of a quality compressor. The Behringer Xenyx UFX1604 mixer makes compressing easy, featuring eight channels, each with one-knob compression. Just set your signal levels, then adjust the compressor to taste, making signal-level management easier than ever. Dual studio-grade effects processor gives you the power to add professional touches to your mix. Editable reverb, delay, echo, chorus, and more let you add that finishing touch to vocals and mixes.

USB recording and playback

The Xenyx UFX1604's computer connectivity is a helpful addition, both in the studio and on stage. In your studio, you can record up to 16 channels at 24-bit/96kHz of the UFX1604 to virtually any recording software via USB or FireWire, and you can also play back audio from your computer through the mixer. For live use, the UFX1604 is an easy way to mix and record the show at the same time With the built-in 16-track recorder. Simply plug in a USB thumb drive and hit the record button. It's also a great way to add backing tracks to your performance, by routing computer playback to the main outputs along with the live mix.

The Swiss-Army Knife in my Setup

Originally I turned to the Behringer UFX line of mixers only after Tascam ceased support for the M-164UF on Mac. Since then, however, I became a real fan. In day-to-day use, all the right signal routing options are available, be it recording options on all channels such as pre versus post fader to the super-convenient ability to capture a rough mix on main directly into the DAW. It's become the centerpiece of my setup.

Not To Be Overlooked

Tho it seems to be. Not many user reviews. That might change, as Sound On Sound gave it a stellar review in Dec '15. I just read it, because I have had the unit almost 2 years, and already knew. It did come with one of the headphone outs funky (pro audio talk for not working), but in true Sweetwater fashion, they sent me a perfect NEW one even BEFORE they received my funky one! Since then, no problems. Don' believe me? OK, here is a quote from the SOS review: "Given the number of features on offer and its incredibly low price, you’d be forgiven for expecting this mixer to be flawed in some way. It isn’t!" SOS also added: "Cons: None". I would add that for Sweetwater as well. And, if you register within 90 days with Behringer, 3 year warranty. We are quickly approaching no-brainer territory. Perfect for USB 16 channel live-gig RECORDING while mixing....(forgot that, didn't you), either direct to laptop, or external HD. I have used both on my Win 7/64 HP g6 Pavilion laptop w/i5 dual core, glitch free. I have a Behringer FCA 1616 as my main recording interface, used problem free for 3 years (I think the negative reviews are mostly re: Firewire, I use USB). Plan to sell it soon and get an Audient iD14. Keep the UFX1604 for when I need more ins, like recording a drum kit. Which the unit is perfect for, with 8 mic pres with compressors. Like I said, read the SOS review.
