The Heart of the TONEX Ecosystem
The IK Multimedia TONEX Board is the TONEX hardware that guitarists and bassists have been waiting for, pairing IK’s award-winning AI Machine Modeling technology with the routing, effects, and connectivity of a professional touring setup. This flagship hardware connects the entire TONEX ecosystem in a single, pedalboard-ready unit, letting you build, tweak, and capture a complete professional-grade guitar or bass rig. A dual-signal-chain architecture supports up to two Tone Models per path — one Tone Model amp and one Tone Model stomp — along with a series of effects for dual-amp, wet/dry, and true stereo setups from a single enclosure. More than 70 effects derived from AmpliTube and TONEX are at hand to help fill up the 12 available slots, with split-and-mix routing allowing you to place each one exactly where you want it in the chain. A 5-inch high-resolution color touchscreen and five precision encoders ensure seamless editing, while three performance modes and 1,400-plus preset slots across 12 setlists allow you to efficiently navigate every moment of every gig. Likewise, an ample I/O panel allows you to drop the TONEX Board directly into whatever rig you already run, and a 4-in/2-out USB interface delivers those same curated tones straight into your DAW. Complete with TONEX MAX software and access to more than 60,000 Tone Models on ToneNET, the TONEX Board is a powerful, advanced, and complete performance and recording platform, ready the moment you plug in.

AI Machine Modeling turns real gear into Tone Models
Every sound on the TONEX Board starts with IK Multimedia’s AI Machine Modeling technology, which analyzes how a real amplifier, cabinet, or pedal responds and then rebuilds that behavior as a Tone Model. A captured amp responds to changes in your guitar's volume knob and picking attack the way a physical amp does, cleaning up as you roll back and compressing as you dig in. The Tone Model library spans small vintage combos and chiming British circuits to modern high-gain heads, along with a vast collection of overdrive, distortion, fuzz, boost, and EQ stomps. And because each path supports both an amp Tone Model and a stomp Tone Model, a captured drive and a captured amp interact with each other just as the original units would in a studio or live setting.

Multiple chains, multiple Tone Models
The TONEX Board can run two independent signal chains, each supporting up to two Tone Models per path or up to four Tone Models when using split paths. That architecture supports dual-amp rigs sharing one guitar, wet/dry setups, and true stereo rigs with independent processing per side. Split-and-mix routing determines where the paths divide and rejoin, and output assignment can send to the front of house, backline, or both simultaneously. Sweetwater’s guitarists point to the TONEX Board’s wet/dry routing as the most efficient way to keep a heavily effected lead audible in a full-band mix, with the dry path preserving the attack of every note while the wet path carries the ambience around it.
Touchscreen editing and three performance modes
The TONEX Board’s controls are split between a screen for building and shaping sounds and footswitches for activating them. A 5-inch high-resolution color touchscreen handles editing, with five precision encoders beneath it for hands-on parameter control. Dedicated Volume and Browse knobs, along with Home, Live, Save, and Edit buttons, keep the pedal's main functions one press away. Underfoot, A, B, C, and CTRL footswitches drive three performance modes.
Preset mode steps through complete rigs; Scene mode recalls verse, chorus, and solo states of a single preset; and Stomp mode turns the switches into individual effect toggles. This intuitive structure offers multiple ways to access your rig depending on what the moment demands. And with more than 1,400 preset slots organized across 12 setlists, 40 banks, and 3 presets per bank, there’s more than enough space to capture complete rigs for every project, every venue, and every instrument you play, all loaded and ready within a few button clicks.

Stage and studio connections
With an ample I/O panel, the TONEX Board can cover both ends of a venue at once and much more. Balanced XLR outputs run cables to the front of the house, while a pair of 1/4-inch outputs feed a backline amp or your stage monitors. And since the two pairs work independently, each with its own global parametric EQ and routing, what the room hears and what you hear no longer have to be the same signal. Dual 1/4-inch inputs can take a guitar, a bass, or a stereo source. The stereo FX loop pulls a favorite outboard pedal into the programmable chain, splits into two independent mono loops when each path wants its own, or runs the four-cable method with a traditional amplifier. MIDI and two expression inputs hand parameters over to a pedal or an external footswitch.
Additionally, a USB-C connection turns the TONEX Board into a 4-in/2-out audio interface, putting the same unit you play live at the center of your recording rig. Configurable routing determines what your DAW receives, whether that’s the processed stereo output, a dry signal captured alongside it, or both at once for re-amping later through a different Tone Model. Lastly, direct monitoring keeps latency out of your headphones, and the 1/8-inch headphone output covers quiet practice at any hour.
TONEX MAX: capture it, build it, load it
Here at Sweetwater, we've seen firsthand what separates the TONEX Board from other high-performance modelers and multi-effects processors; it exists naturally within a connected ecosystem of TONEX software and hardware. TONEX MAX is a software suite of three tools that you'll receive with your TONEX Board, turning your computer into the workshop behind the hardware. TONEX Modeler is the capture tool, taking the amps, cabinets, combos, and pedals you already own and rebuilding them as Tone Models with the same AI Machine Modeling technology behind IK’s own library. Training runs as short as a couple of minutes and stops on its own once a model hits peak quality, so a studio afternoon with a few borrowed heads turns into a permanent collection, and every capture comes out phase-perfect and ready for the board’s dual signal paths.
TONEX Player is where those sounds live. Here you can explore, organize, play, and record with your whole library, either as a standalone or as a plugin in your DAW. The TONEX Board Editor closes the loop, moving Tone Models and presets between your computer and the hardware.

70+ effects, VIR cabinets, and custom IRs
More than 70 premium effects from AmpliTube and TONEX cover reverbs, delays, modulation, dynamics, EQs, and pitch, filling up to 12 slots across the two chains. Split-and-mix routing determines what sits in front of the amp, what sits behind it, and which path each effect takes, so a modulation block can feed one chain while a long stereo delay washes across both. The stereo FX loop can be placed anywhere in the signal flow or split into two independent mono loops, bringing outboard pedals into the same programmable chain as everything onboard.
Cabinets come from IK’s VIR technology, which builds each one from multiple impulse responses to capture the space around the speaker and deliver the depth and dimension of a mic’d cab. The TONEX Board also loads custom IRs, so a favorite cabinet capture or a third-party pack drops straight into the chain. Since a Tone Model can capture an amplifier on its own, any captured head can be paired with any cabinet you like.
65,000 Tone Models and an ecosystem that keeps growing
ToneNET opens your TONEX Board to more than 60,000 Tone Models and presets, one of the largest collections of captured guitar and bass gear anywhere. Official IK content sits alongside Signature Collections, Premium Collections, Tone Partner collections from gear makers and artists, and an enormous body of community captures. All of it is browsable, auditionable, and downloadable. Tone Models, presets, and libraries also move freely between the software, ToneNET, and the hardware, so the sound you build at home is the sound you'll hear at rehearsal and at the gig. What's more, free software updates and a library that grows by the week make the TONEX Board a rig that keeps gaining ground long after it lands on your pedalboard.
