A Deep Dive Into ’90s-inspired Modulation
As far as classic flanger effects go, you’ll love the tone of the Behringer The Flange With No Name. Inspired by a hard‑to‑find ’90s classic, this stompbox combines dual Time and Space modulators, which are an optical tremolo and a BBD‑driven delay, respectively, to unleash dramatic, analog‑fueled textures. Endlessly versatile, this pedal delivers flanging, chorus, and tremolo with equal assurance, with switchable Mono and Stereo operation. Thanks to its unconventional control layout, The Flange With No Name offers extensive sound-shaping possibilities, highlighted by the Reaction and Action knobs’ ambiguous yet surprisingly intuitive Yin/Yang paradigm. Additionally, this pedal includes dedicated Time and Space footswitches, bolstered by an LFO selector for fine-tuned waveform control. You also get an FX Loop for inserting additional effects, as well as Trig/Gate and CV In jacks. Beyond that, the I/P Gain knob makes achieving optimal headroom incredibly straightforward, while true bypass switching keeps your signal pure when the effect isn’t being used. Complete with eye-grabbing ’90s-tinged graphics, The Flange With No Name delivers old-school modulation effects with attitude.

Intimidating at first, intuitive by design
At first glance, The Flange With No Name can appear a bit daunting. Never fear, we’ve found it to be quite intuitive once you wrap your head around it. The Manual knob controls the offset value of the delay line; short times yield phasing, medium times yield flanging with regeneration, and long times yield chorusing. The Depth and Rate knobs adjust the intensity and speed of the effect. Additionally, you use the I/P Gain knob to dial in the optimal balance of headroom and noise. The Reaction and Action knobs, which feature a creative Ying and Yang paradigm, provide access to a wide variety of sounds. The Reaction knob shapes the pedal's regeneration; the Yin side produces odd harmonics, while the Yang side yields even harmonics. The Action knob determines the mix level of the delay line; the Yin side produces an out-of-phase signal, while the Yang side yields an in-phase signal.

Features built for sonic explorers
Behringer’s The Flange With No Name Flanger Pedal is among the most full-featured modulation stompboxes we’ve seen here at Sweetwater. For starters, it includes an FX Loop that acts as an insert point for the pedal’s delay path, activated using the Loopage footswitch. Next, the Time footswitch selects the delay path for time-based effects, as indicated by the green LED, which is routed out of the Time Out jack. Additionally, the Space footswitch selects your dry signal, as indicated by the pulsing red LED, which is routed out of the Spaced Out jack when operating the unit in stereo. Moreover, the Spaced Out jack outputs a summed mono signal when the Time Out jack isn’t in use. You also get an LFO selector that sets the waveform for the Space and Time modulators. Finally, the Trig/Gate jack allows stop/start and continuous synchronization of the LFO, while the CV In jack makes integrating your controls a straightforward affair.
