Hartke Tone in a Portable Amp Head

The TX600 hybrid electric bass amplifier head is Hartke's most portable design. Despite only weighing seven pounds, this compact amp head boasts a Class D power amplifier that pushes out an impressive 600 watts from an amp. The TX600 front-panel's features and EQ controls will be familiar to fans of Hartke's designs, and the straightforward nature helps you dial your tone in quickly and easily. You'll also find features such as a compressor, an effects loop, and a Brite switch to further sculpt your ideal bass tone with the TX600.

Hartke TX600 Electric Bass Guitar Amplifier Head at a Glance:
  • Maximum portability
  • Tube tone, solid-state reliability
  • Compressor, effects loop, and more
Maximum portability

Hartke designed the TX600 to make it easy to transport. Hartke achieved this by designing the amp around a Class D power section, which does away with much of the circuitry that can weigh down other amplifiers while still delivering the same power and warmth of tone. Hartke also built a rugged carry handle right into the amp allowing you to carry your bass amp with one hand when loading in and out at your next gig. With all of the features and power the TX600 carries, it's amazing how they got it all into such a portable and easy-to-use package.

Tube tone, solid-state reliability

The first thing your bass signal will hit is Hartke's famous tube preamplifier. Placing a 12AX7 preamp tube in the circuit gives you the warmth and detail of a tube amp while remaining lightweight and maintenance free. Your sound then runs through an incredibly flexible and easy-to-use tone stack. The bass and treble controls have been optimally voiced, while the shape control allows you to choose the frequencies you want to effect. And a push of the Brite button adds a little more top end to cut through the mix.

Compressor, effects loop, and more

With all of the power and tonal control onboard, it's astounding how many tone-shaping features Hartke added to the TX600. A single-knob compressor intuitively evens out your peaks or adds aggressive punch to a slap tone. The effects loop is a great place to run your time-based effects. And you also have 1/8" jacks for headphones and an auxiliary device such as a phone or MP3 player. All of that and separate active and passive inputs and an XLR direct out are sure to make the TX600 a very hot seller at Sweetwater.

Hartke TX600 Electric Bass Guitar Amplifier Head Features:
  • Portable bass amp head with 600 watts of power
  • Class D power section keeps the weight to a manageable 7 lbs.
  • Rugged built-in carrying handle
  • Simple yet powerful Hartke tone stack
  • Tube preamp delivers warm, touch-sensitive tones
  • Single-knob compressor evens out your dynamics
  • Add in your favorite effects through the loop
The TX600 offers Hartke's legendary tone to go.

I received this bass head from sweetwater a week ago and played last sat nite with 2 hartke hx112 cabs, and my rick 4003s bass. Amazing tone and by far the best direct out ever!, only downside is if you have a hard hitting drummer or high stage volume it is a little under powered, watt ratings today make me laugh, 600 watts? I dont think so, but im old and used to a 200 watt sunn head that on 3 kills neighbors!, overaal tho a great400 dollar head

Hartke TX 600 from Sweetwater

It is a pleasure dealing with Sweetwater and The TX 600 is better than I expected. Quiet clean power with a shaping knob for midrange. I would like to see an effects in/out, but no big deal.

Thumbs Up for me...thanks Hartke!

Very pleased so far with this Hartke amplifier. The 600 watt rating is more than sufficient for driving my older Ampeg V4b cabinets. I use it primarily for recording, and have found it to be very easy to control and shape your sound with its compressor, gain, and the shape tonal controls. It allows you to bring out different character sounds from your bass tones. Using flat wounds, or round wounds, it still allows you to extract what you need. I'm primarily fretless, and I can go from a traditional tone to that sweet "mwah" sound. (using GHS ground wound mediums) It's super light weight too. So as a primary, or back up amp, or if you are in the studio a lot, it does produce very appreciable tones going direct. Nice grounding feature too for any interfering hum, or buzz. Good product for the money I would say.

Compared this with my GK 400 RB IV (280watts 4ohm) and it blew the Hartke TX 600 away. I'm using 2 Hartke 1x12's. Thought it would be the perfect head for the 12's. Someone forgot to put the xtra 500 watts in there somewhere. In closing, yeah it does look like a Halloween Decor lit up. Thumbs down for me.

Not for me

I tried this amp with a couple of basses and different cabs. I took me less than an hour to realize this was not the amp for me; of course Sweetwater took it back no problem thanks to their awesome return policy. With all tone controls set at 12 o'clock, I thought the sound was harsh and unnatural. The tone controls themselves are quite ineffective, so there's not much that can be done about it. The gain stage and overall output are very weak. Finally, I don't normally care about the appearance of an amp, but this thing looks like a Halloween decoration when you turn it on. At least you can easily see your settings. Oh well, to each their own.

Sweetwater Advice

Hartke TX600

[The TX600] will appeal to bassists looking for an inexpensive, all-in-one solution for headphone practice, rehearsals, and the stage....The best feature on the amp might be the compressor. It's very easy and straightforward, and good for anybody unschooled in the ways of a compressor/limiter. ...
