Great recording interface for your band

The Zoom TAC-8 Thunderbolt interface is simple to use, and Sweetwater has been impressed by the high sound quality. A set of XLR/TRS combo jacks in the front lets you hook up mics, instruments, or line signals in seconds. The TAC-8 uses high-end Burr Brown converters to capture top-notch audio. A full set of TRS jacks in the back let you hook up your powered monitors and studio processors, and you've got ADAT and S/PDIF digital I/O for expanding your rig.

High-end processing delivers better sound

The power and speed of Thunderbolt is sure to change the face of audio recording. The TAC-8 not only records, but it also performs four times upsampling of your signal during the analog-to-digital and the digital-to-analog conversion. So, when the sampling rate is set to 44.1kHz, the TAC-8 is processing the signal at 176.4kHz, which helps minimize aliasing noise and increases clarity. In other words, your audio will sound amazing.

Blazing-fast performance with Thunderbolt

Apple's Thunderbolt connectivity has opened up a world of professional recording possibilities. Thunderbolt is five times faster than USB 3.0 and up to 20 times faster than USB 2.0 and FireWire 800. This gives you the speed to record and monitor with virtually no latency. In fact, Thunderbolt is so fast, it isn't bothered by computer jitter, so you don't need a master clock. No more hunting for an extra power outlet because Thunderbolt is bus powered from your computer. It even gets enough juice to provide your mics with phantom power. Super fast, super stable, and bus powered - that's Thunderbolt!

Zoom TAC-8 Thunderbolt Audio Interface Features:
  • 18-in, 20-out Thunderbolt audio interface
  • Extremely low latency audio
  • MIDI I/O lets you use MIDI control surfaces and sequence external hardware
  • TAC-8 MixEfx application allows you to add reverb or delay effects to inputs and outputs
  • Phantom power to run your favorite condenser mics
  • Eight XLR/TRS combo input jacks for mic and line sources, enough for your whole band
  • LED meters to monitor your input and output levels
  • All-metal design is ready for reliable use in the field
  • Bus powered directly from your computer
  • Works with Thunderbolt-equipped Macs running OS X 10.8.5 or later
  • Requires Thunderbolt cable, not included
Tap into Thunderbolt performance with the Zoom TAC-8!

Good Interface

I am still fairly new at the entire digital recording world. I have been wanting an audio interface for a long time and this was an impulse buy when I went down to GearFest '15 this year. Let's start with the pros of this interface: - The routing software is easy to navigate - It's a very appealing interface as far as design goes - Most of everything that you would be using is right on the front of the device - There is group phantom power (1-4) and (5-8) which is nice. There was only one drawback that I didn't like about this interface: - No level indicators on the front I was not disappointed with the sound quality of this interface, judging by the little that I used it. It turns out, the interface was defective right from the box. Inputs 1 & 2 would not get near as loud as the others. So, I sent it back to the manufacturer for a replacement, and while waiting on it, I decided I wanted something different instead. Bottom line: I feel like this is a great interface, but I just want something with level indicators on it.

Does what I need

Bought this to be able to hook more gear at once vs. my duet. Works as advertised, as expected it did not sound as good as the duet when I A/B'd them, but its quiet, fast and solidly built

Good but just not good enough !!!

very decent product but the lack of level indicating LED's was a deal killer for me guess I'll spend the extra money and buy the Focusrite Clarrett 8 pre X you just can't go wrong with a Focusrite product !!!!!

TAC 8 Problems with OS Sierra

I recently purchased a TAC 8 only to find out that it is apparently incompatible with MAC OS Sierra. The U.S. Zoom technician tells me the problem is being evaluated in Japan. Unfortunately, he can't tell me whether it will take a week, months or a year to fix. At this point, I get serious static when I try to record anything. Zoom is not offering refunds.
