Injection-molded Waterproof Case for Your Studio Gear!

The SKB Studio Flyer Rack Case is a steamer trunk of innovative features packed into a compact, convenient size. It boasts a virtually indestructible injection-molded shell that is both lighter, stronger, and less expensive than the previous 4U Studio Flyer. It also features front and rear molded-in square rack rails that are preinstalled with cage nuts, giving an extra element of security to sensitive equipment on the go. Improved quiet-glide wheels, a user-friendly pull handle, built-in cord pockets, and a laptop compartment under the lid all help make the SKB Studio Flyer the ultimate transport solution for studio gear today.

The multi-tool of rack cases: compact but full-featured

There are two cord pockets under the 4U rack space, and the lid has interior padding and a 2-inch compartment that will accommodate most laptops. There is also extra space at the front and rear to allow room for any knobs and switches protruding from your rack gear. And since water and electronics don't play nice together, Sweetwater's studio engineers are glad to see that there are waterproof seals on all Studio Flyer compartment doors.

SKB road cases: travel ready and convenient by design

SKB is a leader in the world of rugged road cases, and the Studio Flyer Rack Case strongly reinforces its reputation for build quality and toughness. Injection molding produces impact-resistant, durable case walls, corners, and lids, so your gear will get there safely. Once you arrive, open the lid to enjoy using the large laptop work area with adjustable hook-and-loop right-angle brackets to hold your laptop in place. The built-in quiet-glide wheels and pull-out handle make it easy to transport.

SKB Studio Flyer Rack Case Features:

  • Injection-molded case is lighter and stronger than previous models for portability and safety
  • Waterproof seals on all compartment doors keep your gear dry for best performance
  • Innovative molded-in front/rear rack rails for convenient, quick rack gear installation
  • Large laptop work area with integrated safety brackets keeps your laptop and gear in one place
  • 2 cord pockets hold cables, cords, and more — no separate carry bag needed
  • Quiet-glide wheels and pull-out handle make transport a breeze

Reviews

Excellent Innovative Roller Rack
This rack case solves a couple of issues I've had on my gigs. Most importantly, it keeps the mixer (or laptop) from sliding off the top of my Gator Case while performing. Secondly, this sturdy roller case with wheels makes it easy rolling your gear in and out. I use two different mixers depending on the gig (and two synths in the rack) and both mixers fit on top of this case securely with the velcro holders. No more slip sliding away or fear of falling from a bump in a tight location.
Great piece of gear!
Deep enough to fit my UA Apollo 8 and comes with screws for mounting everything. So glad to have made the rig mobile!
great concept, passable execution
it's lightweight and the shell is durable as advertised. the case is solid and has *mostly* held together for a years of daily use. for folks who move the case less often than me, it might well be a perfect case. it's marketed as a "flyer" not a "commuter" to be fair so maybe i overestimated how it would hold up to daily usage. there's not many (if any) direct competitors on the market so it's safe to say it's the best at what it does.

that said, i have the same complaint as many other reviewers: the plastic mounting rails are a weak point and absolutely a bit of a disappointment. they held my rack gear for a number of years but i recently cleared the case to install a new setup and i discovered the rails have bowed a bit with time and now take some real effort to align for mounting. the wheels died long ago - they were destroyed by daily use on weathered parking lot asphalt. unfortunately they don't really stand up to use on anything other than perfectly smooth surfaces as eventually even moderate vibration will destroy the bearings. the velcro on the laptop clamps suffers from repeated repositioning, weakening with extended use. more resilient wheels and metal rack rails would make this a 5-star case.
A really great case. One caveat
I have gotten several of these. They are great in use as portable web-casting kits. Lightweight, flexible.

I only dislike that the rails are plastic. Some slight sagging of deep gear. I think in future versions, I will reinforce them with metal, somehow.
Music background: Amateur musician. Old seasoned tech....
Not suitable for all rack mount gear.
The overall idea is good. But this case has a fatal flaw for me. It does not fit all standard rack gear. Most rack cases front cover provides 2" of depth for gear that sticks out from the front of the case. Such as Sennheiser G4 handheld microphone. That unit comes with rack mounting hardware that provides for front mounting the antennas. The antennas stick out a bit from any case. This skb case doors (covers) only provide a 1/2" of dept and is obstructed from closing because of the antennas. My old skb case fits perfect because of the normal 2" clearance. SKB could of set the rack mounting depth further into the case if they wanted to use shallow doors. Before you say remove the antennas please keep in mind that the Sennheiser rack kit has ears that also stick out to protect the antennas from damage. I wasted a whole day trying to make this case work. Only to have to pack it up and send it back. Am I doing something wrong? If not "SKB, this case is a disgrace".
Music background: Over a thousand gigs.
