This Mic Mute Switch Is Perfect for Singing Drummers!

The Pro Co Sign Off represents a name change for the original Pro Co Cough Drop L version, a passive latching microphone muting switch (press to mute, press again to unmute). To operate, your microphone cable is plugged into the Sign Off and the Sign Off is plugged into the sound system. If you need to cough or clear your throat, simply step on the Sign Off to mute the microphone's signal. Pressing the switch again unmutes the microphone and resumes regular communication with the audience. Especially useful for singing drummers, the Sign Off will work well for any entertainer who needs a latching rather than a momentary microphone muter.

Pro Co Sign Off Microphone Mute Switch Features:
  • Latching foot switch that allows the operator to turn a microphone on or off at a press of a button
  • NOTE: Can be used with condenser mics requiring phantom power but may create an audible pop when muting/unmuting.
What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Couldn’t be happier
Good quality and works
Belch into the mic without shame
In most broadcast and musical settings, belching and flatulence on the mic are unwelcome. Thankfully, someone thought to invent the ProCo Sign Off pedal.

I do voice overs, and when I'm at the condenser mic on a remote session I can't run over to my mixing board when a sneeze or other impolite noise creeps up. With a quick tap of the foot this cuts the audio. I've personally issued gusts from my lower regions in the 50 Hz range that were successfully rendered mute by this device.

Yes, it would be nice if there were a light, but you'll know it's on when your sound is off. I haven't had any problem with pops when I step on it. No, it doesn't *totally* cut your audio, and if someone wanted to normalize the wav file to 100% they'll hear a staticy version of whatever noise you were trying to obscure. This would be voyeuristic on their part, though. Just don't say what you really think of the producer on the mic and you're safe.

Build quality is top notch and, like the ProCo Rat 2 I bought 35 years ago, I expect this to be very durable.

Purchase one if you're of a mind to.

Very Practical
I use this while live streaming or taking calls at work. I can toggle mute/unmute without reaching for my mouse, leaving my hands free. Simple and easy.

built like a tank for sure
Well, it's a mic mute switch, and it does the trick, very nice if the mixer doesn't have a mute button. If you can remember whether it's on or off, you don't need a little light, and it's nice to have at least one pedal that doesn't require power. It is a very heavy duty solid steel little box, no question whatever about its long-term durability, chuck it in the cable bag and don't worry. A little heavy maybe, if that would bother you. It's not heavy enough to bother me.

The Perfect Microphone Muting Device
My goal was to have a device which could turn off a microphone signal without introducing a click or pop in the recording.
This switch works absolutely perfectly, for that purpose.
Music background: As a former sound system operator for University of Washington activities, and subsequently for making radio show recordings for the blind, the use of this kind of equipment was important for clean recordings.

What Do Our In-house Gear Experts Think?
Ryan Murphy
Touring bands that play on large stages like to have microphones setup so band members can talk to each other through their in ear monitors. But if you have a live mic that is open all the time that will just create unwanted noise. So when you want to talk just step on the sign off to open the mic up and step on it again when you're done.
