In building Schema: Dark, Native Instruments enlisted renowned Kontakt instrument developer and sound designer Tobias Menguser. This virtual instrument’s suite of diverse yet focused composition tools fuses the industry-leading expertise of Menguser and Native Instruments as a sandbox of unrivaled, latent sonic potential. Schema: Dark is built around a dyad of core components: a 16-step sequencer and a 4-layer loop. Each layer of the more than 1,700 loops — designated A, B, C, and D — is successively darker than the last. Thanks to detailed recording and processing, the A-variant is captured via studio-grade outboard gear. In contrast, a slew of bespoke processing configurations implements everything from boutique distortions and rackmounted gear to snarling signal manipulators and esoteric modular machines. With more than 340 silver-screen-worthy presets, detailed dynamics controls, comprehensive MIDI integration, and malleable effects, sound designers at Sweetwater are enamored by the plug-in’s robust, interactive workflow.
