Sure to Satisfy Vintage Fuzz Enthusiasts

Never a brand to rest on its laurels, Electro-Harmonix equipped the Satisfaction Plus with the vintage-inspired snarl of the original Satisfaction Fuzz and supercharged it with a dramatically expanded control section. All of the original’s fizzy fuzz is present on the Norm setting, but a quick flip over to Fat unlocks a thick, bass-heavy fury that would make any ’60s-era guitarist thoroughly unsatisfied with their primitive pedal setup. Once you’ve chosen your preferred setting, the active til-shift EQ Tone control and voltage-sag-inspired Bias knob give you the power to sculpt your sound. One foot in the past and one foot in the future: the Satisfaction Plus Fuzz Pedal takes a classic Electro-Harmonix creation, then cranks it up to the next level!

Vastly enhanced tone-shaping control

While the original Satisfaction’s 2-knob control scheme was truer to the ’60s-era pedals that inspired it, we’ll gladly defy the vintage-correct formula for the Satisfaction Plus’s drastically upgraded control scheme! Bog-standard Volume and Attack controls dictate your level and gain, but the Bias and Tone knobs have quite a bit more going on under the hood. Bias functions almost like a battery starve feature, taking your tone from smooth, full-range fuzz to a spitting bite on its lower levels. Moreover, the Tone knob’s tilt-shift EQ design inversely controls your signal’s treble and bass frequencies for a near-limitless font of tones to tap into.

Dual-voice Fat/Norm switch

The Satisfaction Plus fuzz’s Fat/Norm control allows for a deep level of tonal versatility, essentially transforming the Satisfaction Plus into two distinctly different fuzzboxes. If you’re after treble-y, vintage-style fuzz that mid-’60s Keith Richards would surely approve of, the Norm setting will be your go-to. Hunting for a fatter fuzz sound? Sweetwater guitarists find that the Fat setting’s beefed-up low end is perfect for low-string riffage and full-bodied leads.

Electro-Harmonix Satisfaction Plus Features:

  • Electro-Harmonix’s vintage-inspired Satisfaction Fuzz pedal with a significantly expanded control section
  • Inspired by the first wave of ’60s-era fuzz pedals, boasting a versatile tone that goes from a fizzy growl to thick wall-of-wool mayhem
  • Standard Attack and Volume knobs dictate your overall gain and output level
  • Bias control takes you from a well-rounded fuzz to sputtering starved-voltage sounds
  • Flexible tilt-shift EQ tone control shapes both your treble and bass on a single knob
  • True bypass design to keep your sound crystal clear and uncolored when the pedal is disengaged

Reviews

Excellent Value and Sounds Great!!!

Well, GAS strikes again, but for $ this little box is a total no-brainer. I wouldn't say it's my favorite fuzz but, I like it enough that it's on my pedalboard and will probably remain there for awhile. I'm using it in the fx loop of my Boss SY-300 guitar synth.

Just by itself, it does exactly what it's supposed to do, which is to get that Stones "Satisfaction" sound and then some. The tone knob has a wide range. The addition of the fat switch and bias controls give it alot more sounds and they are all useful. The gain knob gives it alot more umph than the original from the 60's and the bias control is interesting, as it gives that increasingly starved sound counterclockwise and a thinner, slightly more defined and less gainy sound clockwise. The EHX demo with Tom is a pretty accurate representation of what the pedal sounds like.

Although I like it on its own, it works great when combined with the synth sounds from the SY-300. I have around 7 fuzz boxes and it sounds different than my other ones. I don't think this fuzz is for everyone, especially since dirt boxes in general are a very subjective thing for us guitarists, but if you like what you hear on the official EHX demo, it's a killer deal.

Music background: I've played in bands, taught guitar out of a music store for 10 years and have recorded several original music CD's. Due to health issues I no longer gig out but I still play and record at home.
Excellent Fuzz
Duplicates the 60s fuzz tone perfectly. To my ears this pedal falls into the same fuzz folder as a Rat. Beyond the obvious Rolling Stones and Neil Young tones, I immediately heard REM's What's the Frequency Kenneth and some good Link Wray vibes. By turning the bias knob down, a dying-battery distortion can be created. The fat switch added a big low frequency boost, but I preferred the normal setting playing through a hand wired Princeton Reverb clone. All knobs at 12 also sounded the best to me.

Great or the price and as good as any other quality fuzz pedal. The construction, switches, and knobs were all tight.
Not for everyone (but I love it)

This is an extremely versatile pedal. It can be a fat fuzz or a cranked overdrive or a bright gritty distortion, but you have to dial it in. The tone knob is very sensitive, turn it down to 25% for a classic fuzz tone. Midway sounds more like a classic distortion.

Nobody I saw talked about this and it's not in the manual or product description, but the fat switch clearly engages sub-octave clipping. You can absolutely hear the low note coming through when the bias is down a little. That's why it sounds so big.

All that aside, I love it. I think it sounds good and has a ton of options. I got it for $ and couldn't be happier.

Great pedal
The Satisfaction Plus is a cool pedal and sounds great with my basses. The fat/norm switch really contributes here.

These pedals are not defective, as mentioned by another reviewer. The static you experience when adjusting the Bias control is normal. It's the sound of the first transistor stage changing as the knob is turned. You're not turning the bias knob during a performance, set it to your preference and play.
The Finest Yet
I have about 25 fuzz pedals. Almost all the ehx's.
Bought this just cuz it was on supersale. Its hands down the sweetest sounding fuzz i own. They'll be sought after then reissued in the durure surely.
