Jumped-channel Plexi Tone

Anyone who has ever had the pleasure of plugging into an actual vintage Plexi knows that the fun lies in jumping the two channels and blending them to taste. The Synergy Amplification Plexi preamp module offers this same tonal magic. Each of the module's two channels boasts I and II gain controls that are voiced darker and brighter, like a real Plexi. This way, you're able to determine how overdriven certain frequencies are in your tone. The Synergy Plexi preamp module offers true British rock tone with the old-school ability to fine-tune your sound.

Synergy Amplification

Merriam-Webster defines synergy as, "A mutually advantageous conjunction or compatibility of distinct business participants." With Synergy Amplification's combining of tube-amp talents that includes Dave Friedman (Friedman), Joe Morgan (Morgan), Steven Fryette (Fryette and VHT), Mike Soldano (Soldano), and Peter Diezel (Diezel), the name is a perfect fit. Each product is painstakingly crafted by these titans of the tube-amp world, ensuring every nuance of their legendary amplifiers is translated to your tone. For the most iconic tones in the most convenient package possible, Sweetwater is proud to offer you Synergy Amplification.

Synergy Amplification Plexi Preamp Module Features:

  • All-tube preamp module based on a vintage Plexi
  • Dual gain controls on each channel help fine-tune your tone
  • 2 x channels offer switching between two preset tones
  • 2 x 12ax7 preamp tubes ensure rich harmonic performance
  • Easy to install and remove from Synergy preamp docks
  • Dual/Single switch allows the module to be used with older Egnater and Randall modular amps

A Classic Brit Tone
This module is my favorite out the the five Synergy modules I own. It has that classic Marshall Plexi tones. It doesn't do cleans very well, but if you like that 70's & 80's Rock tone… this is for you. I know it is for me!

WELL THERE IT IS!!!!
I have the Vai module and Bogner Esctasy and they both sound great and even though the Bogner can get a variety of tones that search for that Marshall crunch, tone and body continues. I recently got PLEXI module and all I can say is
" THERE IT IS". You can you get that sound for only $... wow!!
I was blown away at how versatile this module is.
Highly recommend if you are in search for that old Marshall tone and crunch, you won't be disappointed.
Which module to get next??? So many for so little money.
Cheers.

Worth it
I play through a high gain JSX head with 4-12 cabinet. I originally was using the SLO module which I ended up returning. Got the Plexi module and I use it to expand my dirty channel choices. I use the Plexi for almost clean, a little dirty, then use my JSX head's channels for a little more dirt, then very dirty. I now essentially have 4 very usable dirty channels. I was able to easily match the character of my JSX head to make it sound right.

If you were going to purchase this module to try for an actual Plexi sound unlike me I can say that I have dabbled with the module for about an hour with the intention of comparing it to actual old Plexi tones you commonly hear in old recordings. I can say for sure it does a pretty darn good job recreating the tone. In fact, it's tone controls are better than the real deal Plexi amps because they just have more headroom. This module also has more gain, more usable tones than an actual Plexi head. You won't get an incredible clean tone out of this module. When I really crank the gain on this module it seems to lose some of it's luster. I think slight dirty to moderately heavy dirty tones shine on this module. Of course, I haven't experimented with it much, so take that with a grain of salt. I like it and I am pleased with the nice sweet tones it produces while playing leads.

Very Flexible for Dirty Tones
I have several of the modules. This is one of my favorites. As noted in another review, it is definitely for dirty tones. If you're looking for a module that cleans up like a JTM 45, the DS module is a better choice.

I really like that this module has the "jumped" configuration allowing you to dial in the hi treble and normal channels. You can get a million useful tones just by exploring the mix between these two controls. In combination with the volume control on the guitar itself, you really get a ton of flexibility with this simple module.

This unit is really durable also. My evil cat knocked it off the top of my studio rack and it took quite a tumble. I was kind of afraid to plug it in and determine if the tubes might have been damaged in the fall. It worked beautifully. I've never left the house with this unit, but I now feel that it would be just fine on the road under normal conditions free of felines.

Total "Marshall" PLEXI!!
I purchases this with very high expectations and I was delivered all of them. The sound is very "airy" with a beautiful driving yet "floating" mid range twang. Dialing in a bit of the "Normal" channel produces what I could only describe as Jimmy Page tone - tonally well balanced and sweet sounding vintage PLEXI tones - think "Song Remains the Same". It is capable of high gain settings that you would normally get with using an input attenuater on a stock amp head; however it is achieved without the flub and unbalanced tonal characteristics resulting from using one. It is as if the module were a real "hot rodded" amp head that underwent professional modification.

The only drawback is the unit is not capable of generating usable "ultra clean" tones as there is still a minute amount of distortion that prevents this at even the lowest levels. But, if you want a module that sounds like a cranked 100 watt Marshall (which obviously this is a clone of ) PLEXI stack, this is your module. Simply fantastic!
