Reviews

Great Module
I was debating on this module & a higher gain one, but I wanted articulate with singing overdrive/distortion. I used to work with another teacher who loved Bogner, so I thought I'd give this module a try. Boy am I happy I did... I rely on my Diezel Herbert pedal for the heavy tones & the TDLX for cleans; I can cover pretty much anything I wanted to play. If you're looking for something more aggressive, I'd recommend the Diezel VH-4 or Pitbull module. In short, very impressive module.

One of my favorites
This is definitely one of my favorite modules. It's a very very versatile module. I get fairly clean Sounds to extremely high gain and everything in-between.

Endowed with the all the spirit of the real $ Ecstasy head
This module is just...everything. I have a Syn-50 head and honestly, I wouldn't be opposed to filling both slots with this module because I'm getting so many different tones out of it. However, I currently use this module in slot one of my Syn-50 with the Blue channel set to a "tropical" clean (more on that later) and Red channel using the 100b mode for compressed lo-mid crunch tones. Think, less jangly like AC/DC and more sweet and greasy like Soft Machine's "Bundles" album or Electromagnets....early Holdsworth and early Eric Johnson respectively. Mid-70s Fusion.

There's two internal switches that really influence how versatile this module is. The 101b/100b switch(affects red channel only) and the Air switch (global).

"101b" mode is the standard, Ecstasy red channel sound, capable of more than enough gain for modern styles. The leads on this mode are KILLER. For heavy rhythms, it's not super tight, so it's not gonna be for Djenty styles. On a scale of tightness, it falls in-between a Plexi and Diezel Herbert's channel 2. It's really forgiving, easy to play and sounds STUPIDLY good.

"100b" mode is interesting. As the manual says, it IS woodier and more compressed. But what I found about this mode is that 1) it has significantly less gain than 101b mode and 2) the gain knob doesn't function in a traditional way. Instead, it seems to push the fullness, while the gain and volume in this mode are actually controlled by the Schizo and Pre-EQ settings. Each Schizo setting has it's own amount of gain, volume and eq shape. So you really have to experiment here.

The "Air" internal switch expands the gain and EQ range.

As for obtaining cleans: drop the gain on the BLUE channel down to about 7 or 8 o clock, Pre-EQ on "B2", and set a higher channel volume to compensate for how low the gain is set. Voila...Vox-y cleans ala Small Faces or the Kinks'
"So Mystifying". I call it a "Tropical Clean" because of how it feels. There's a juicy, gushy quality to it, instead of being sterile, stiff and Fender-y.

For metal, you can go about this two ways...in both cases, I recommend the "Air" switch set to ON.

1) Use 100b mode if you want more compression/tightness, then hit it with an OD, Pre-EQ on "B2" so it's a more modern curve. Like this, the amp will Djent.

2) 101b mode for way more inherent gain, and drop the bass a smidge to get it tighter. Remember that this mode has more of an open character to it, so it's not gonna do modern straight-up metal perfectly, but it'll get pretty close...right amount of gain, it's just not compressed enough. So I'll say 101b is more for modern hard rock than anything. I'm cool with that, that's really where I fall anyways.
Oh Dear Lord!!!
I have been playing guitar for 30 years now. Owned tons of amps, solid state, valve... I've tried a lot! I've used software, attenuators. IR'S...Etc

Hear me now, this is the closest thing to a vintage Plexi 50watt I have ever played... it sounds perfect .. its responsive and dynamic... it takes pedals perfectly.. oh... and that's only the Blue Channel.

The Red is "Vai in a box" the gain is so violiny and smooth. It has this amazing loose response and yet can be scalpel sharp when dialed in for it.

This is the best amp anything I have ever played... this module alone is worth the price of the head. you now have one of the best sounding amps out there...

Oh and for a few dollars more you can add a Diesel V4 or a Brown Eye... I am so beyond sold on this module setup.

They sound great direct recorded.. they sound great cranked and appropriately react to volume and tone knobs.

This is not a gimmick, well... it is... but it's a gimmick that let's you legit own 3-5,000 amplifiers for a fraction of the cost.

I can't recommend this enough.
Everything from early rock and roll to vintage metal all the way to a more modern high gain sound (keep in mind this module isn't made for the super high gain stuff. For that perhaps try the Engl Powerball which has enough gain to... well... be very very noisy)

But if you're looking for an amazing gain sound with tons of variables and lots of rich tone...

You're done... look no further.

just had to follow up....
I started messing with the option switches and man there is a lot more to this puppy than first glance. Of course it is all what suits your touch and style but I tried the Cathode switch on mid and the "Air" switch on and bejesus it's a whole different amp/module. Does it sound like a Ecstasy amp, sure you can adjust it to that format. But mine seems to be something else now and I just love the result. A modified Ecstasy? The cleaner channel is quite nice for that sort of thing and a pedal platform, the gain channel is just massive, thick, wow, impressive stuff. WE NEED SYNERGY T-SHIRTS, guys!!!!
You are missing the boat guys not trying Synergy, this stuff is incredible. This is not a gimmick or merely a distortion preamp it is real amp guts chaps! Try them, you will be floored!
Hope they continue this line as a standard from now on, more modules please!! They are all really good and so hard to decide which one to get next. Many thanks to the genius designers and engineers creating this stuff, what a synergistic partnership of uber minds, amazing guys, just amazing.
