I bought this capsule out of curiosity and was blown away! I have been on the search for a mic capsule that would handle a high SPL that some of my vocalists produce. After trying many different brands, and many different models, I think I found something that will work (don't get me wrong, some of the others are good too). The mids and high mids are incredibly clear, I noticed a huge difference whenever I was mixing down my multi track. This is probably the biggest bang for the buck capsule out there.

We use these mics for both musical performances and religious services. For both purposes they improve the clarity and sound intelligibility of voices. And they inexpensively replace the heads in our existing Shure wireless setup. Very pleased.

Swapped out Beta 58s and V7's for these. They worked, but these blow them out of the water. They're more musical (IMO) against the V7s. We've even had members of our congregation asking vocalists if they've been taking lessons. One wife asked her husband if he's doing something, we're jokingly saying he's finally become a man. All kidding aside, they have great rejection, sound musical and are very full body (I'm setting the HPF above 300hz on some vocalists). Most importantly, they cut thru a mix really well.

I can't emphasize enough on the rejection. We're pre remodel and the PA speakers are about 15ft behind the front of the stage. I did a quick test and was able to get relatively loud for our room before we ran into a feedback problem. With some Waves plugins (PSE, Feedback Hunter, etc) I can get the mix to 96db easy if I was allowed to haha.

I bought one of these back in May of 2023. I just purchased the second one for my mic locker here at the church. Honestly, these have sounded great on everyone I have tried them on, but where I fell in love with this capsule is on a couple of my vocalists that can sometimes sound a bit harsh in their upper range. The super flat response from this capsule (instead of a bump up in the upper mids or highs ranges) have helped these two sound much better in our room. For them, it has smoothed out their vocals and they sound like they should without having to do a ton of eq at the console. Now I can eq easily to enhance their voices instead of trying to do 'damage control.' Also, my volunteer mixers who aren't as experienced can do nothing with the eq on their voices and it still sounds really good. Makes my job much easier. And, while I'm sure this capsule won't sound amazing on everyone, I haven't found that person yet...

The sr3117 is extremely transparent, drastic difference between the shure beta87 & sr3117.. I am very glad I purchased this capsule..I have other Earthworks microphones, don't regret any of them..for vocals & instruments..
