Infinitely Versatile AVB Stagebox and Rackmount Mixer

The PreSonus StudioLive 16R exhibits exceptional performance, both as a rackmount mixer and as a stagebox for your StudioLive Series III console. It features 16 great-sounding XMAX preamps, a flexible array of I/O, and comprehensive routing, making it useful in innumerable live applications. It's equally at home in the studio, boasting built-in 18-in/18-out USB and 32-in/32-out AVB audio interfaces. Onboard stereo SD recording is also supported, making instant live recordings a breeze. Sculpt your sound to perfection, thanks to vintage-style EQ and compression on every channel, along with a range of reverbs and delays. The StudioLive 16R comes complete with wireless control via your computer or smart device.

Three options for multitrack recording

The PreSonus StudioLive 16R gives you three efficient options for multitrack recording. A built-in SD card recorder allows for easy stereo recording. You can also connect to a computer via USB for 18 channels of recording and playback. And the StudioLive 16R supports AVB over Ethernet too, allowing for 32 channels of recording and playback.

Flex Mixes offer a ton of freedom for any mixing application

At Sweetwater, we know it can be frustrating trying to use the same mixer for many different tasks. That's why we're excited about the 6 Flex Mixes offered on the PreSonus StudioLive 16R. Flex Mixes can be set up as Aux mixes, Subgroups, or Matrix mixes, depending on what your show demands. Need a ton of different monitor mixes for a large group of musicians? No problem, you can create up to 16 aux sends if you need to. Same with Subgroups and Matrix mixes — perfect for theater productions and multi-zone venues, respectively. Basically, the StudioLive 16R's Flex Mixes allow you to adapt your mixer to the mixing task at hand, instead of adapting your workflow to the limitations of your mixer.

Pristine XMAX preamps for sound reinforcement and recording

Simply put, the 16 Class A XMAX preamps onboard the StudioLive 16R sound like they belong in the studio. Their high headroom and low noise floor deliver extremely clean and clear sound you simply wouldn't expect from a live console. And mic preamp settings are fully recallable, which is a huge time saver when you mix or record the same band or show on a regular basis.

UC apps deliver full-featured remote control options

One of the major updates Series III brings to the StudioLive mixer line is powerful and flexible remote control via both wired and Wi-Fi network connections. If you're the engineer, then you'll love UC Surface, which is available for Mac, Windows, and iPad platforms. UC Surface lets you access virtually any aspect of your mix, and with support for up to four screens, you could hardly ask for more comprehensive feedback. On the other side of the stage, artists can control their own monitor mixes via the QMix-UC app. What's more, QMix-UC is available for both iOS and Android operating systems.

Advanced processing for EQ, compression, and effects

The StudioLive series of consoles has always been known for outstanding effects and processing capabilities, and the StudioLive 16R takes it even further. You get two internal effects buses that are loaded with a combination of reverbs, delays and other effects that you can route any channel through. On top of that, Fat Channel processing offers vintage EQ and compressor models on every channel.

PreSonus StudioLive 16R Features:

  • 18-input, 16-channel digital rackmount mixer and AVB Stagebox for StudioLive Series III consoles
  • Record and play back up to 18 channels via USB, or up to 32 channels via AVB Ethernet

Best Live Mixer
Been using Presonus for live music mixing for years, recently upgraded from Studiolive 16.4.2 ai to this 16r rack mounted unit. As always, Presonus built a workhorse. Honestly, Boyle sure if anything was really "upgraded" but a rack mixer is so much nicer than a big console. All software is the same or really really close. Using this in conjunction with Shure psm300 IEM units with a Shure AC41 antenna combiner and remote omnidirectional antenna… Magic… High five to Matt McKible, my sales rep. Always here to answer my questions and steer me in the right direction.
Music background: Live Band
Love it.
I bought my first one 4 years ago. I used it primarily for home studio recording. When my band started gigging heavy, I started using it for live stage work. At this point, I have used it in so many different situations. As a live mixer, as in-ear distribution, as a stage snake for Studiolive consoles. I think it really shines as a live recording interface while mixing live (refer to the video links below). I bought a second one this past year so I don't have to dismantle my studio room to play out live. One in the studio, and one in the live rack. cant's say enough good things about this mixer.
Compact small club / iem genius
The presonus mixers have a lot right with them for a live band. I have owned other digital mixers, xr18, cq-20bt, dl1608, but this one is largely the best overall for what I need. The UC surface app takes some getting used to but it's all there including the ability to link aux channels for stereo mixes all in 1u. Add a headphone amp and a cheap split snake and you are ready to give the foh either a whip or LR, and your in ears are setup the same as you practice with. Great small club solution.
Good Stuff
This is the second Rackmount Digital Mixer, I already have the 32R in my inventory. Good Stuff! I started several years ago with the 1818 VSL, grew into the 32.4.2.Ai console then to the 32R and now the 16R. I am looking forward to using this as a Studio Interface - everything else works great so the interface mode should be as excellent as the rest of the equipment.
Music background: Retired Musician, semi-active recording and sound Tech.
Really enjoying this mixer!!!!

Purchased this unit for use with video projects involving multiple people mic'ed with lavs. Really enjoying using the mixer. I use it with a laptop and an external SDD. Just pop up capture and let it roll. Love the fact it will sync timecode with the laptop. Does not provide a perfect sync with the cameras but close enough to make sync adjustments much easier. Preamps are more than adequate for my projects, producing excellent sound. Very simple and mobile sound system for my needs. Also great for music videos done "on site" when the band does not have recording capabilities in their sound system. Great bang for the buck at less than $ per channel recording.

Sweetwater and PreSonus go way back, and that makes a lot of sense. Like Sweetwater, PreSonus is largely staffed by active musicians, songwriters, live sound techs, and engineers, and like Sweetwater, their culture shows up in everything they do. Early on, PreSonus broke ground by offering super-affordable audio interfaces that brought quality recording to home studio engineers everywhere. In the following years, we've been with them as they introduced a powerful, artist-friendly DAW, groundbreaking digital mixers, and more - all products we at Sweetwater use ourselves. One thing that's never changed, even as PreSonus has branched out into new territory, is that they've always done everything possible to provide you with the best value, and we're proud to stand by their products.
