A Full-depth, Gloss-top Overhaul to Gibson’s Studio-series Jumbo
When Gibson’s rosewood-bodied Studio series of acoustic guitars initially launched, they offered guitarists more accessible variations of classic Gibson models with slimmed-down bodies and understated appointments. Now, the SJ-200 Studio Rosewood takes a leap towards its top-of-the-line sibling with an upgraded full-depth body and a gleaming gloss nitro top. This guitar’s super-jumbo body and scalloped X-braced Sitka spruce top team together to deliver mammoth projection and cavernous sonic depth. Rosewood forms the back and sides of this superb 6-string, granting the already formidable SJ formula enhanced bass and a room-filling resonance that blooms and sustains with rich overtones. An Advanced Response utile neck sits beneath the premium 16-inch-radius rosewood fingerboard, and it’s all finished off with eye-catching mother-of-pearl crown inlays. And although this SJ-200 Studio Rosewood packs a massive unplugged punch, you also get LR Baggs electronics to electrify your sound. For over eight decades, the Super Jumbo has represented the peak of Gibson steel-string power — make it your own with the Gibson Acoustic SJ-200 Studio Rosewood!

Rosewood body delivers deep bass and lush overtones
While Gibson’s SJ-200 has made a name for itself as one of the world’s premier maple-bodied guitars, the truth is that the SJ-200 began life with rich rosewood back and sides. In a way, the Gibson Acoustic SJ-200 Studio is a true throwback to the SJ-200’s late 1930s roots, boasting a beautiful set of rosewood back and sides to pair with its Sitka spruce top. What differentiates a rosewood-bodied SJ-200 from its maple- and walnut-bodied counterparts? Rosewood delivers a deeper bass response and superior overtones than many other tonewoods, but it also features a slightly less forward midrange.
A full-body-depth, gloss-top reimagining of the Studio series
The instruments in Gibson Acoustic’s Studio have historically featured three distinct qualities that differentiate them from their higher-end counterparts: Restrained aesthetics, unique tonewoods, and a slimmed-down body depth. That all changes with the Gibson SJ-200 Studio Rosewood. Now boasting a full-depth body, the Gibson SJ-200 Studio Rosewood is now nearly identical to a traditional SJ-200 in all but visuals. Almost all this guitar’s “Studio” features — an unbound fingerboard, less extravagant bridge, and less bling all-around — rest firmly in the cosmetic category, ensuring that the Gibson SJ-200 Studio Rosewood is ready to provide you all the depth, nuance, and canon-like projection of Gibson’s most potent jumbo guitar. Finally, Gibson has deigned to grace this Studio-series model with a full gloss nitrocellulose lacquer top — the same finish found on Gibson’s top-of-the-line models — to pair with the understated appeal of its satin back, sides, and neck.
The crown jewel of the Gibson Acoustic lineup
Affectionately referred to as the “king of the flat-tops,” the SJ-200 is the biggest, loudest, and most powerful 6-string in the Gibson Acoustic arsenal. Few guitars can match the sheer sonic potential of an SJ-200 strummed with full intensity, but what separates the sound of a Super Jumbo from a dreadnought or other large-bodied 6-string? In a word, balance. Super jumbos boast all the low-end depth and immense projection of their slightly smaller dreadnought siblings, but the high strings on a large-bodied Gibson Super Jumbo project with just as much power and authority as the low strings. Naturally, this leads many a strummer and singer/songwriter to favor the Gibson Super Jumbo, but the design’s natural balance also perfectly lends itself to voluminous fingerstyle playing.
Classic Gibson craftsmanship for impeccable sound, looks, and playability
Gibson’s reputation as a fine guitar builder dates back to the late 1800s. Handcrafted since day one by some of the most skilled luthiers around, Gibson acoustic guitars have inspired countless players around the world. When you pick up a Gibson acoustic, you know you’re getting the finest tonewoods, quality hardware, and incredible attention to detail. These instruments are built to sound great and stand the test of time. After moving from Kalamazoo, Michigan, to Nashville, Tennessee (where Gibson electric guitars continue to be made), Gibson finally settled their acoustic operation in Bozeman, Montana, where the company continues to handcraft some of the finest guitars on the planet. Sweetwater is proud to offer you such a fine line of distinguished musical instruments.
