A Semi-hollow Bass with Fat Tone

Get that classic '60s bass sound with the Guild Starfire II semi-hollowbody bass guitar. Favored by groups like Jefferson Airplane and the Byrds, this bass gives you fat, warm tones not typically found in solidbody basses. Its thinline semi-hollowbody is comfortable to play, and gives you the organic, resonant sound and lush overtones of a hollowbody instrument. A pair of BiSonic pickups deliver the iconic bass tones you've heard on countless records. When you need distinctive bass tone in a gig-ready instrument, you can turn to the Guild Starfire II bass every time.

Guild Starfire II Semi-hollowbody Bass Guitar at a Glance:
  • Short-scale neck for tonal magic
  • Thinline semi-hollowbody for comfortable playing and rich tone
  • Based on the classic '60s Starfire
Short-scale neck for tonal magic

Of course the short (30.75") scale length of the Starfire bass makes it easier to navigate the fretboard, and is perfect for beginners and players with smaller hands. But did you know that the scale length of a guitar or bass has a direct impact on its tone? The harmonics your bass guitar generates are spaced along the strings based on the length of the strings - shorter strings mean the harmonics are packed in tighter, giving any note you play more harmonic richness than a longer scale would. Just plug the Starfire bass into your bass amp and you'll see what we mean, as notes come alive and cut through the mix without becoming overbearing.

Thinline semi-hollowbody for comfortable playing and rich tone

Try as you may, you just can't get the same vibrant, overtone-rich sound of a hollowbody bass with a traditional solidbody. But instead of giving you a bulky instrument, Guild gave the Starfire II a thinline body style that gives you the woody thump of a hollow instrument plus the easy-playing comfort of a traditional bass. Take it from the Sweetwater crew - the Guild Starfire II semi-hollowbody bass has the tones and playability you want in a bass.

Based on the classic '60s Starfire

Classic rock recordings have no shortage of warm and groovy bass tones served up by hollowbody instruments. Bands like the Byrds and Jefferson Airplane relied on the original Starfire bass for their rhythmic foundation. You can get that vibe too, with the Guild Starfire II semi-hollowbody bass.

Guild Starfire II Semi-hollowbody Bass Guitar Features:
  • Thinline semi-hollowbody based on the '60s Guild Starfire
  • Dual BiSonic pickups serve up rich, vintage-style tone
  • Short-scale neck for harmonics-rich tone
  • Exceptional tone and looks from laminated mahogany back, sides, and top

Very Nice Bass!

The pictures of this bass don't do it justice. I bought mine sight unseen and had never played a semi-hollow bass before, but I was looking for that fat and rich tone that I have read about this classic bass type. The craftsmanship of this bass stunning and I love the different sounds you can dial in using the independent volume and tone controls for each single coil pickup. Thanks to my great sales engineer Mark Magdich for keeping me informed on the delivery and getting this great bass to me as quickly as possible. I got to play it for a gig this weekend and I am very happy with it!

Exactly What I Wanted

Insanely comfortable. Very warm tone. Looks sharp. I love my new bass. A bit of neck dive was to be expected but it honestly isn't as bad as I thought. Thank you Sweetwater and thank you Joe James!

Great quality and solid bass!

This thing is gorgeous first of all. Great finish and all the hardware is very high quality. The neck plays very nice and has a nice finish as well. The tone and volume controls for each pickup are a really cool feature and helps get any kind of tone you would need. Only issue is there is a tad bit of neck dive, but then again it's a semi-hollow bass so it's to be expected.

Buy this bass NOW!

Love the tone! Love the feel! Love the playability! This bass has a good balance and is just fun to play.It has everything in a "double cut away", "semi-hollow" bass that I was looking for. Each pick up having its own volume and tone controls coupled with the master volume make this a tone monster! The case is a sturdy hard shell case that looks good and does a good job of holding the bass during transit and storage.I'm so glad I got the Starfire II Bass and a BIG Thank You to Mac Hatton (sales rep) and the whole Sweetwater gang!!

The godfather of the semi hollow bass re-born

Chances are, if your looking at this you know the history of Guild Starfire basses. I've owned several from vintage to 90's re-issues. I gotta tell you Guild/Córdoba got it right! The neck is a thing of beauty. Slim and a joy to play. The body is correct (unlike the recent FMIC version that was a couple K more and looked like an EB-2)The glowing, glossy clear finish brings out amazing depth in the ribbon mahogany. You could literally lose hrs staring into it. The pickups are great! Makes me wonder if Fred Hammon was involved. If I had to complain, it would be hard. Maybe the change to the bridge elevation screw location? But that really is being picky as the bridge on these re-issues offers a wider more stable base than the vintage version.Big thanks to Guild Guitars for brining the Starfire II bass back! And a huge THANK YOU to Sweetwater and my sales tech Ryan Clapper for helping me get this bass asap.
